Adding a full season of Mccullers and Hunter Brown. Theoretically adding Michael Brantley who didn't impact the playoffs at all.

Going 2 deeper in the lineup with Brantley/Abreu v Diaz/Mancini/Gurriel makes up for downgrade from Verlander to Mccullers.

This is poor logic. Lets use 2 freak isolated instances of rookies that defied the odds as evidence for letting the rookies play.

No deal <$50M is that big of a risk, but this is not a good deal for SF. There basically 2 outcomes:

They get him on a good/fair $18M/1yr deal.
They get him on a bad/terrible $36M/2yr deal

    More downside than upside.

They won't all produce. Two or three will.

100% a SF reaction to the Correa failure.

Centerfield is not an issue because McCormack should be an average to slightly above average bat. He's going to be our 8th batter. Catcher is only a concern if Maldy gets hurt since we really don't have a backup unless they think Kory Lee is ready. He did hit a lot better last year after he went down to AAA. They will probably give him a chance again. If it doesn't work out, we will get a catcher at the deadline like we did last season.

True, but the same can be said about the veterans and they drain more resources.

This is a good point. We shouldn’t drain our farm because we are worried that our 8th hitter is either average or above average for that spot in the lineup and our backup catcher is only a marginally better hitter than our starting catcher. We don’t have to solve 4 years out this off season

CF is a concern if the Astros don’t play McCormick 120 games in CF. They haven’t shown that level of confidence in him yet.

Catcher is projected to be an issue in 2024 and 2025 as well.

    Concerning Bauer:

Is Bauer now being eligible mean his salary goes back on the books of LAD CBT), even if they waive him?

There is a lot more risk that 4 rookies and Maton+Meyers bust than our veterans fall off a cliff.
