The more I look into Luetge the more I would like him, though many teams are ahead of us on waiver priority and the Yankees would likely be hesitant to trade with us. Lefty, good K and BB rates, low hard hit %, and even spits. The WHIP does look a bit high (1.40) but it was lower in 2021, and he has good spin on his fastball. His xERA is higher than his actual ERA (maybe why the Yanks let him go), but he looks like he could be a great piece for us. From Bellville, TX and went to Rice. Bring him home, Crane!

Guess Barnhart was too pricey for GM Crane.

Just because you don't try to read things does not mean that you don't read tings into what people say.

    This is a prime example.

Do you think the Pirates are going to trade Reynolds straight up for one of those 2 guys?

    Astros get: OF Bryan Reynolds

Pirates get: RHP Luis Garcia, OF/2B Pedro Leon, IF Joe Perez, RHP Misael Tamarez, OF/3B Tyler Whitaker
Makes the lineup super long (1-8), gives us platoon/load management options with McCormick/Brantley, and prevents the Yankees from getting him. (Maybe he can fill in some at 1B on Abreu's DH or rest days - he played there a bit in college)

I'm thinking it was the player option.

Crane already would not do that for Conforto, who does Barnhardt think he is wanting one?

I think Garcia is a nice piece but other teams will offer better prospects to complete the deal.

I would expect Pitt is looking to start with: Brown, Y Diaz, Gilbert, and Jaime Melendez.

The Astros would probably need another mid level guy like Tamarez thrown in even to make that package work.

Bryan Reynolds is the not the level of talent you’d give up a still developing Garcia or Urquidy with 3-4 years of team control each

Supposedly, Pittsburgh loves Trevor Rogers from Miami, if you believe some of the Twitter rumors. Aside from opposite handedness, I'd say they're similar in terms of age, career arc, and possible untapped potential. Urquidy will turn 28 shortly after next year starts, I think he's likely peaked and no longer "still developing."
Even after the Brantley signing, @Nook said we were still monitoring the outfielder market. Reynolds is probably a dream but it never hurts to check. Unless he is traded to us, my preference is he either stays put, or, if traded anywhere, to Miami. Do not want him in Yankee pinstripes. Sometimes, if not too cost prohibited, it pays to prevent your biggest competition (in this case, NYY) from getting better. Twofold move, since it also helps you. Our goal is to win another WS, and to win, we first have to get there. To get there, we have to win the AL Pennant, and the Yankees are the biggest threat. They don't scare me, but I don't want them to get scarier.

    Just for grins:

    Astros get:
    Reynolds OF 59.9
    Rodriguez C 37
    Total 96.9

    Pirates get:
    Garcia SP 45.6
    McCormick OF 31.3
    Diaz C 14.4
    Meyers OF 5.3
    Total 96.6

Still have Lee, Leon and Room for Dubin, Whitley or Tamerez.

Lol yeah that’s a fantasy world trade if I’ve ever seen one. Adley is one of the 5-10 most valuable assets in all of baseball. They wouldn’t even entertain trading him. And if for some unfathomable reason they did, they would get an absolutely massive haul that would have to include legit MLB starters.
Signing James McCann is in no way an indictment on what they think of Adley.
