Is there any disadvantage to repeatedly shutting off the water supply to the house overnight and turning it back on during the morning for use during the day? Seems like that would be better than dripping faucets overnight.
I don’t think there really is a disadvantage to that. You could let the hot water drip and that would keep the cold line warm as well. I don’t think we will get above freezing until Saturday afternoon.
man, it feels so good outside right now…to think that by evening this place is gonna become an arctic wasteland
Temps fell like a brick up here in the DFW area. It was around 45 degrees at 8am. About 30 minutes later it was 32. It was 23 another hour after that and now it's around 17 and still falling. The worst part was the 20-30+ mph winds when that all blew through -- the wind chill was lovely. We also got some snow. Wee. And, of course, I had a dentist appointment during all this. It's supposed to get down to around anywhere from 7 to 11 degrees by tomorrow morning. Then, if we're lucky, we may get above freezing on Saturday and Sunday by a couple of degrees for a few hours. I'm hoping for that in case any pipes freeze.
Wrapped the pipes, going to shut off the water at night, turn off the water heater and drain the pipes. Have some backup power, but also unplugging or turn off any unnecessary electrical outlets so to reduce stress on the grid. Hopefully, others will turn off things like Christmas lights temporarily. Got extra supplies and water, it's a sacrifice for a few days hopefully others make preparations as well.
Prepare and stay out there. In the meanwhile I felt like I was getting heat stroke the other day walking around Singapore.
Report - rumor that there is some type of power outage North of I-10 between Katy - Brookshire. Way too early for there to be a shortage of electricity, so sounds like a line/distribution issue.
There do seem to be a lot of outages out there (specifically looking at the Centerpoint link below) Texas outages (Can't vouch for the accuracy of this one) Centerpoint outages Entergy outages ERCOT demand/capacity in realtime
