But how pissed would Taylor be? Seriously though I was just trying to say that I don't think Diaz is a good fit for the outfield because he can't run. Obviously there are extreme situations like you mention. Position players even pitch in MLB on occassion. Pitch Diaz and put Blake Taylor in left!!
I would think that Adley Rutschman is one of the top 3 players in terms of trade value in MLB (there's an argument for #1 even). Julio Rodriguez and Michael Harris are in the same neighborhood.
I know it's a dream. Probably up there with the Trout Ohtani talk. But I was thinking Elias may consider it if he got 3-4 major league contributors + 1-2 high ceiling prospects Truth is anything that Baltimore would consider would help catcher at expense of the rest of the team Like- Brown, K.Lee, Hensley, Abreu, Leon, and Paredes.
They would say no to Pena, H Brown, and Garcia. Why would they do what you're suggesting just because they traded for a backup catcher?
They aren't given their contracts. If they take a step back like Kyle Lewis then they can't give them away...
LOL! 470 PA in his career and Rutschman is already valued at $35M/yr. Worth Pena and Tucker on the game.
Yes he had 2 good years with the White Sox and parlayed that into a nice free agent signing. Since then he has barely been replacement level. You could get the same production from Tucker Barnhart for probably around the same money. Funny I do not see anybody jumping up and down to sign him, and I doubt anyone will see him as a "missed opportunity" if he signs elsewhere. While I think they both need more development in AAA, I think both Lee and Diaz would provide more value than McCann. One outlier? What a crock of crapola. Contreras was a missed opportunity. Vazquez was maybe a missed opportunity. McCann is the same as Tucker Barnhart. Not my idea of a must sign.
And all three of those guys have more value too the Astros and any team with a half inept GM than a catcher. I’d be happy with Pena for Rutschman straight up if the Astros made the call.
Here's an idea - Kikuchi is owed $20M over the next two years, perhaps we take him on in exchange for Jansen if the asking price is too high? Urquidy and Paredes for Jansen and Kikuchi, who says no? Jays upgrade their #5 starter and add a reliever with potential (also an area they're looking to upgrade), we upgrade catching and get an innings-eating starter to replace Urquidy (or maybe convert him to the pen). Perhaps Toronto can eat $2M each year.
