ZiPs is projecting Hunter Brown for 1.7 WAR with about 50% of his season as a starter. That would track to about 3 WAR for a season as a starter (140ish innings). This isn't to say he can't be a bust, but that is a crazy great projection when looking at game starts and innings pitched projection.

Can't wait for Uncle Mike to slap a 3-2 pitch off the right field will against Cole and the Yankees for another AL crown, then put Cohen's dream team away with a 12 pitch at bat, pinch hit home run off Edwin Diaz in Game 6 at MMP.

nothing would be sweeter in 2023 than beating the Yankees in the ALCS and then the Mets in the WS.

Depends on your definition of costing us big… a player of Bryant’s caliber (.280 BA, .880 OPS) that can play all OF and 1B, 3B and DH. Which both adds starter quality to positions of need while also protecting us against an injury to LF (yordan and his hands), RF, CF (needs upgrade), 3B, SS (bregman to SS), and 1B (our oldest player who is already the age Bryant will be at the end of contract) — seems to be worth 26-28 mil if you look at what is being given out these days. I would venture to guess there is a nonzero chance he is actually underpaid within a couple years. Also, it wouldn’t cost us much in prospects and maybe they would pay some money… But who knows.

All this makes sense except Crane.

Crane has stated he will not allow the team to become encumbered by long term contracts.

He has drawn a line in the sand and won't bring in anyone on a 6 year contract.

AAV makes no difference. It's about the time commitment.

Maybe if Colorado agrees to pay 100% of the 6th year?

I’d say it’s now appropriate to rank it:

    1. Mets
    2. Braves
    3. Astros
    4. Dodgers

When I see contracts with tons of incentives, I always think of Edgerrin James...

Fall down and run out the clock. But Ive got too many incentive clauses in my contract for that. Every yard is money, man. So I started laughing in the huddle when I heard what Coach wanted. And then I kept running past that first-down marker ....And I heard a cash register ringing the whole damn way, too.

I’m curious if Crane rethinks extensions a bit in light of Cohen.
