What? I don't recall anything like this happening in MLB history. The closest I can recall was in the NBA with DeAndre Jordan. How does Boras explain this one? He will have lost all credibility ... unless he blames Carlos, in which case he will (continue to) be the most vilified player in baseball. Or perhaps Carlos failed the physical, but that would also be somewhat fishy if he failed and Giants immediately signed him for a third of a billion. Very, very odd.
One hilarious outcome of this ... the Mets are a better team in the same city as the Yankees by creating Astros North. The continued tears of Yankee fans will be delicious.
No I think the Giants were backing out of the deal or at least trying very hard. Thus he needed to find a new team. This is even better for spurning the Yankees but still playing in the same city. That's gold, Jerry!
So, what happens with Lindor? This just didn’t feel like an area of need. Or am I missing something? Is Lindor hurt?
Just taking a look at the Mets OPS+ by position (excluding catcher), their lowest was their 3B, Eduardo Escobar. If memory serves me correct, when Correa first became a free agent, he stated a willingness to move to 3B, if needed. So, it seems likely that Lindor stays at SS and Correa shifts to 3B. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happens in New York.
I can’t believe the game is going to be robbed of shortstop Carlos Correa in the prime of his career. I’m sure he’ll play a fine 3B but playing CC anywhere but SS at this point in his career is a head scratcher. He is better than Lindor, but I don’t see them moving Lindor to second or elsewhere. Sigh.
Cohen literally throwing darts blindfolded praying that he hit the bullseye. Cohen as a repeat luxury tax offender in 2023 (all but guaranteed now) will owe more in luxury tax than the payroll of at least half of major league baseball.
