Lets look at a couple indisputable facts. 1) Our current record is 9-20 with 53 games still to play. 2) We would have to go 32-21 the rest of the way to reach .500 by the 82nd game. Very Likely 1) It will require a .500 record or better to make the playoffs. 2) Change everything you don't like about the current team including the coach tomorrow and still I don't see this team capable of plying .600 ball the rest of the way. I doubt they play .500 the rest of the way. Caveats 1) If we had started off better, getting to the play-in might have been realistic. 2) If our coaching is as bad as some say, making a change LAST OFF-SEASON may have made a difference. Things as they are 1) The mentioned caveats didnt happen, and playing .600 ball from now on isn't happening. 2) So all we are left with is whether we get a good draft pick or not.
Everyone knows we’re are tanking at this point. The question is how we intend to develop while tanking.
No, I want to win, we have enough good players to build around, I want them to start learning how to win. DD
this is a such a huge jump to conclusion...it is insult to basketball and 100% neglect of the detail and subtleties that goes into winning... and this is the kind of mentality, reductionism, and low iq thinking that tanking brings... if you start win ball today you at least started...and will have 6 months of that experience under the belt at the end of the season.... if you continue tanking you may become too big addict of the tank you may never be able to stop it... the problem of this team is not the talent...the problem of the bad teams in nba in general is never the talent... erybody is talented in nba... so more talent gonna change nothing...more work more, effort better, better decision making and management of the talent will solve almost everything...
Sir, you are in no position to estimate anyone's IQ other than your own. Of course I left out the subtleties and detail. You expect every post to include a 1000 word answer that covers every aspect of what winning is? I am sure others have tried, so go find those if that is the kind of post you want to read. Here though, I am purposely narrowing the view to how winning a few more games, in terms of wins/losses, affects things now and I will add, the future. If you think this team can make the playoffs, then by all means, tell us that. But don't come in here with accusations and presumptions about another persons full thinking on a subject based on 8 sentences written. If there is an insult here, this is it.
That’s like staying at home and beating off to p*rn instead of driving downtown to sleep with the girlfriend/boyfriend.
Some errors in these projections. Last season San Antonio made the play-ins with a 34-48 record. We'd have to go 25-28 the rest of the way to get a play in spot which is a 47% winning record. Our winning record the past 15 games (a decent sample size) is 46.6%. Our win rate every single month has been better than the last and the youngest rotation in the league is likely to have the most in-house improvement of all teams. We finished up the most difficult quarter of the season already and our SOS the rest of the way is on our side compared to most teams. I know some people get really down on things if we lose when we're supposed to lose, but I wouldn't bet against these kids knockin' on that play-in door. They've got some magic these ones.
The bigger question is if we want to. If they somehow make the playin, that means Silas definitely stays and KPJ keeps running point, all the while having no shot at either Wemby or Scoot.
I used the current standings as the basis for that projection. Right now, the #10 seed in the west is Minny at 15-15. No error.
I said goodbye to the Wemby/Scoot dream in preseason. Really gutted to be missing out on Wemby, but I'll say it for the millionth time: there's absolutely nothing more that can be done to make this team lose more and the wins are accelerating as I predicted. The right thing to do is to get Wemby. But what do you do? If you listen to the board, the starters already suck, the coach sucks, the PG sucks, the C can't anchor the paint. How are you going to tank more than this? You can sit Eric, but I promise we would win more games with Tate than Eric so you'd have to bench Tate too. I don't think they'll do that, it's too obvious and shameless, league would fine them. I have a really different perspective than most about this roster. I believe we're sitting on a budding dynasty and this team is going to win more this season and next than anyone in the media could have predicted. I think Jalen, Jabari and Sengun are going to be All Stars at minimum and I think Eason, Garuba, Tate and Tyty are going to be excellent-elite role players. I think we'll have a good pick in 2023 and a great picking coming from BKN in the near future. I believe we'll also acquire one big name player via trade or FA in 2024. The cap is super well managed thus far. I can't see how that's not a perennial title contender starting in 24-25. We're not going to be in the bottom of the league again for another 10 or so years.
Ok so not an error, but the season tends to even out that way. Even in the season before the last, the Spurs had a 45.8% record and made the play ins. What I'm saying is that it's likely you can make the play ins without a .500 record.
There isn’t a single player on the roster that is a lock to rise to the level of the best guy on a championship caliber team. We still have a ways to go in the talent department.
There are no guarantees in the draft not a single one..... I would rather trade for a disgruntled proven star. Just as many bust out as become even an all star player. DD
I know there's a theoretical way it can be done, but I don't think there's a way it can be done without the league and the players turning on them. Take Nix for example. They've over-played him at backup PG and even ESPN noticed and started talking about it. Moving him to a starter role would generate too much focus on the tank, which brings the commissioner into it.
