gosh, i hope that's not intentional, because it's absolutely disgusting if it is.

Very telling you care more about the "shape" of a nazi symbol in a crossword than you do about ACTUAL NeoNAZIs at Desantis events.

You think this is just a coincidence? How do you "coincidentally" create that shape and publish it on the first day of Hanukkah?

How would you "coincidentally" arrive at that shape? It's very obvious. And it's not the first time they did it.

It's funny how this stuff makes you conclude "Nazis" but not the group of people's rhetoric you continue to spam in regards to enforcing traditional hierarchies and villifying anything outside them

Like I said before, Hitler would also be very concerned about gay and transgender groomers trying to turn children gay and trans to sleep with the.

from the guy who submitted it to NYT to publish

In a section titled, "constructor notes," Ryan McCarty shared his excitement about his Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle debut.

"Thrilled to have my first Sunday puzzle in The Times! This grid features one of my favourite open middles that I've made as it pulls from a variety of subject areas," McCarty shared. "I had originally tried to make it work in a 15x15 grid but then decided to expand the grid out to a Sunday-size puzzle with a fun whirlpool shape. Hope you enjoy!"

But I guess we’re gonna go with the Nazis at NYT narrative? Cancel the NYT?

It's almost certainly a coincidence. The rotational symmetry of the swastika symbol and the rules that govern how crosswords are constructed makes it more likely for it come up randomly.

The real question is why whoever is charge of putting out these puzzles wasn't being more proactive in checking for symbols or other features of the puzzle that could offend minority racial or ethnic groups.

Edit: ^ Looks like I was wrong about it being purely random and the person who submitted it was actually going for a whirlpool shape. So, what's more likely? The NYT is secretly staffed by Nazi sypathizers/trolls, or whoever is responsible for accepting the submission just missed that it could be perceived as a swastika?

I mean, I'm not a friend of cancel culture, at all, but this just seems so obvious to me. One doesn't have to "look for trouble" to see it.

    Don't play ignorant.

I'm sure as a supporter you are aware of Desantis events. I'm certain you also know what types of groups also support him.

Its the company you keep that allows you the faux outrage over a crossword shape yet allows you to remain silent when actual neo-nazi's support your choice for govenor and/president (if you had a vote).

Care to educate yourself on your fellow Desasantis supporters?

    https://www.adl.org/resources/report/hate-sunshine-state-extremism-antisemitism-florida-2020-2022

Scroll down and you'll see your fellow Desantis supporters flying his flag and their nazi flags.

    Where is your outrage?

What's obvious to you may not be obvious to someone else. My mind would not have leapt to swastika unless it was pointed out to me. It took me several seconds to visualize where the swastika when I saw this thread.

This is exactly like the Trump nazi stage from a while back. Posters here convincingly proved that was intentional. This is like a Trumpian crossword puzzle

I quickly searched the page you quoted for "DeSantis".

This sounds awful. I had never heard of these groups (except for the "proud boys" who seem idiots). But we are talking about like 10 freaking idiots (whom I would never want to meet in my life!). What is he meant to do about these idiots - I guess he should condemn them, but that would probably give them a lot more attention than they deserve.

It seems very far-fetched to pin this on DeSantis. If a handful of Nazis or mass murderers were to say "we are Biden's Army", I think Biden would be best advised to ignore them. It would be clear to any sane person that he doesn't endorse that. The same is the case here.

It's actually ridiculous to lump more than half of the voters in Florida (and I'm not even a voter) in as "fellow DeSantis supporters" just because 10-12 crazy Nazi assholes try to associate themselves with the elected Governor of Florida.

Says more about you than anything else.

The big difference here is that the NYT is a huge, significant newspaper and these 10-12 idiots really have no significance at all. So if you ask me why I care about one and not the other, that's why.
