Yes it was. It's amazing how these people develop such a following and then keep them when they are exposed as frauds.
He creates meaning, purpose, and targeted gratification for them. If he's a fraud/hypocrite, does that make his message that they've worked and built upon a lie as well? A lot of them started out as disaffected and voiceless. So Jordan is still in the mix until there's an equally or more potent, toxic and addictive alternative. Reminds me of those doomsday prophecy cults like SDA and Jehovah's Witnesses that the followers know are factually incorrect (world ded 1800) but they still kept and maintained over hundreds of years "for the spirituality." On the flipside, there's probably a money element like L. Ron Hubbard and his merry band, but none of that is exposed for this group.
We already knew that Blue Verified would give you prioritized visibility, so this is just more the same and gives even more power to subscribers to control speech on the platform. He’s desperately trying to ramp up subscriptions, but not sure if this will do it. Do people want to spend $8-11 per month for the Elon Musk show, which is what Twitter appears to be devolving into?
Never knew there were so many p*rn accounts on Twitter. Caste system based on paid subscription in the era of social media is going to be great.
This is the first time a social media platform is banning critics of the owner, or banning people based on a voting system vs violation of the terms of service. Reminds me of the reddit group "thedonald" Obviously Musk's whole "Twitter is the nation's townhall" schtick was bs but we all knew that. Question is what impact does this have? The right has been upset that Twitter wasn't allowing them to attack people and spread false info, so presumably now they will not only have the ability to do that, but also suppress any narrative that opposes them, true or not. Twitter is a powerful platform and many entities from oil tycoons to Saudi princess would probably happily contribute billions to control the platform as it's a real pain in its side. Imagine how many authoritarian gov't out there in the world would line up and chip in a billion dollars to Musk to control speech. There's far more money in that than Advertising dollars I'd imagine, and would be a very good reason to take the company private.
not sure who's been banned. folks that were suspended have already had their accounts restored. again, more like a Facebook jail timeout than "banning"
but I do love the fact that lefty pro-censorship folks are coming out of the woodworks for free speech. After all, Twitter is a private company and can do what it wants. Folks who are "banned" can simply start their own social media platforms if they want
Not all have been restored. So far I am seeing more people from the left point out Musk's hypocrisy around free speech vs claiming Twitter doesn't have a right to ban whomever they want.
Super original take there, lol. You know, it is possible that the “pro-censorship” lefties have a more nuanced take on free speech and content moderation than you are willing to admit,
you forget I named a whole thread after @Sweet Lou 4 2 because he said the censorship by non-governmental entities wasn't a real thing. Only governmental censorship is a real thing (I paraphrase). on edit, wasn't paying close enough attention as I was rushing out the door. Sorry about that @durvasa
What are your thoughts on her libsoftictok account galvanizing an increase in assaults and haarrasment incidents on trans and LGBTQ people in general?
Not entirely correct. Downvoting (call it shadow banning if you will, where contents become less visible with more downvotes) is not a new concept. What's new here AFAIK is prioritizing downvoting of paid subscribers (to what degree, who knows with Musk's awesome transparency, but I digress). I don't think I have ever seen that before. It essentially created two classes for shadow banning. Those that paid monthly and those that don't. This kind of class system in a "public square" tend to create resentment and embarrassment. If this is for making money, good luck to Twitter. People might still remember that the elitism label isn't cool to wear publicly. Technically, there are possible funny workarounds. Fund a number of paid subscribers' bots to downvote EVERY new blue verified member post. Unsubscribe from every blue verified member (though they can still downvote your posts). And so on - I have trust in the creativity of the community. Let the war begin.
I love how the right cries lying to people in harmful ways is freedom of speech, but that banning a journalist doing their job is justice. Amazing.
