Not really. You generally cut short the discussion without putting forth an actual argument with “you don’t understand free speech”. Nothing I can do with that accept shrug, lol.

What I just wrote is, in fact, no different than what “free speech absolutist” Musk had called for with his “freedom of speech” vs “freedom of reach” stance. Where do you land on that?

Also, even if it’s clear to many people that it’s a joke if some kind, the fact remains that “jokes” are often retweeted and spread by people who take it at face value. I’ve seen Tweets posted in the forum many times that were clear jokes, but the vast majority of people responding to it didn’t see it that way.

Frankly, I would be more startled over how many don’t believe it or don’t care since Putin’s propaganda lines up with populist right propaganda. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Putin rails against “satanism” and “the woke” when speaking for an international audience.

I agree about balance, and it’s very tricky. Like I said, the “censorship” is around foreign meddling and the pandemic.

The FBI has a task force specifically on combating foreign influence established by Director Wray under the Trump admin after the Russian election interference. It is their job to monitor major social media. They wouldn't be doing their job otherwise. Social media platforms can decide on actions based on their own rules and adherence to laws. This is nothing new. The private and public sectors (not just social media platforms) work together all the fking time.

Politicians like Musk say one thing publicly, while privately continuing that private/public relationship. If he really hates this cooperation, he has the power to stop it - ban all FBI communication to Twitter.

It's funny now that Elon Musk is in charge of Twitter, it's totally acceptable for him to censor journalists he doesn't like and ban their accounts. So much for free speech.

The right was so upset about Trump's account being suspended, that was wrong and unamerican, but suspending journalist accounts? Hey, that's democracy!

Why is the FBI collecting location information on Billy Baldwin? Did they get a warrant?

American Stasi, burn it to the ground

It’s funny now that Elon Musk is in charge of twitter, it’s totally not acceptable for him to ban accounts. The left was totally fine with banning accounts “because it’s a private company and they can do whatever they want. If you don’t like it, create your own social media.” But now that some faux journalists are suspended, it’s a threat to democracy and must be reinstated immediately!!

I thought twitter was dead and dying anyways? Why do they want to come back to a dead & dying site? Mastodon, Post, Tribel, Counter, Spoutible, Hive is where it’s at!

    Lou said it ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

“Thursday Night Massacre” is worse than 9/11, WWII and the holocaust combined.

They were not acting as journalists. They were acting as aholes.

Further proof the left hasn't a clue what journalism is (or the right for that matter)

As I believe you argued with the old Twitter management, it’s not the government’s place to force Twitter to suspend or reinstate any suspended accounts. Twitter is a private company. However, we can find fault with their decisions. In particular, inconsistent or arbitrary enforcement of their rules is not proper, even if if they are within their legal rights to do whatever the hell they want.

Maybe. Still waiting for Twitter to show the offending posts that got the accounts suspended.

Meh, you're painting with too broad a brush.

I lean strongly to the left overall, and I don't care much about those bannings. Of course it's arbitrary, and that's what's funny to me -- the I'm for free spee, oh **** wait. Also the hey I loooove attention, look at me and what I'm doing, all the time, no look some more, oh **** wait, you're tracking me like some kinda celeb now?

I'm curious as to exactly what the reporters posted that crossed a supposed line. And I agree with you: If people are so bent about Twitter, they should and can leave.

As for the Wiki site, anyone can start a Wiki page, no? Not necessarily some angry leftie. Might even be an incel with a sense of humor (if such exists). I'd never heard the term before you posted it, but I've been pretty busy and not reading much about this.

I'll say it is absolutely hilarious if some idiot actually compared a few twitter bannings to kristalnacht. That's ludicrous.
