KPJ: Can someone explain to me why he has become Clutchfans favorite whipping boy?

So he averaged more assists with less turnovers when he was playing at SG 2 years ago. That's even more concerning. In fact that's straight up red flag for your "future pg".

I don't really care why KPJ is bad at playing PG and TyTy is better. All I care about is that TyTy is much better at protecting the ball and getting everyone else involved. And I don't think KPJ can ever improve meaningfully, because his shortcomings aren't training-related, he just doesn't seem to be good at making the right decisions (even more so under pressure).

Ah right. Both trades happened in Jan 2021. But KPJ trade was after

KPJ's shortcomings and his ball-hogging and the forced prioritization of KPJ over other players in terms of playmaking, touches, shots have a direct negative impact on the development of Sengun and Jabari (and actually also Green). This is at least as much on the coaching staff as it is on KPJ, but it needs to stop.

Great post. You can't develop something you don't have.

I'm glad you have determined that in the entire 20.9 minutes TyTy has played this year. With the bench unit.

So you disagree? You think KPJ is good at protecting the ball and at getting everybody else adequately involved?

Dude you have been here for all of 14 days. You think KPJ was with the Rockets in 2020. You don't even know what position he played with the Cavs or when what position he played when he came to the Rockets.

I think he is doing what his coach is telling him to do. Especially when Silas said KPJ wasn't ISOing enough.

I never said he was with the Rockets in 2020. And i KNOW he played at PG in 2020-2021. So keep your "i'm not a kpjstan but" bs for someone else, alright?

I don't think we will ever find out if KPJ can be a PG until there is a coach who knows how to develop a PG or hold a player accountable. Honestly KPJ may end up being a total washout as a PG, but I don't think that can be determined until the coaching is different. My preference would be we get someone who has been playing PG all their life and end up making KPJ 6th man of the year as a SG. I don't think that person is on the Rockets right now though

No he did not play PG in 20-21. He was a SF for Cleveland and he was a SG for the Rockets. Go back and look at the box scores. It is really simple to do. Would you like me to teach you how?

Silas for some obscure reason indeed prioritizes KPJ over other players. But do you think an AST/TO ratio of 1.45 for a starting point guard (which has not gotten better, but worse over the last roughly 100 games) is adequate?

So you think he played at SG in the game he posted 50/11 against the Bucks. So who was the PG in that game? Tate or Armoni Brooks? Maybe Olynyk or CWood? What do you think?

I’ve seen that statement many times. Do you have a link? I don’t like Silas myself. But I also don’t think he’s really that dumb

    https://www.thedreamshake.com/2021/...r-jr-becoming-the-face-of-the-houston-rockets

    Article from May 2021:

Whether he’s in a groove or not, he’s going to get his teammates involved, and that was evident against the Los Angeles Clippers when the Rockets got cut up by L.A. The Clippers were without Paul George, but more importantly, the Rockets were without John Wall, which meant that KPJ was filling in at point guard.

It was a bad shooting night for him, only going 4-13 from the field and pitching in 14 points, but he dished out 13 assists on the night. Even while struggling, Porter remained a creator.

Without question, his ability to create opportunities for his running mates is why head coach Stephen Silas and the rest of the coaching staff have slowly been transitioning him into the point guard role that saw Harden’s game ignite.

Porter has shown that he can handle facilitating duties, dishing out a double-digit assist total in 4 of his 25 games as a Rocket. There were only six games when he finished with 4 assists or less. KPJ’s season-high in assists came in a 126-120 defeat against the Phoenix Suns, when he delivered 14 dimes to go along with 22 points on 7-15 shooting. Point guard is a role that certainly fits him.

If the Rockets have a coach who knows how to develop a PG, he will instantly send KPJ to the bench and won't waste his time trying to develop something that doesn't exist.

There are a lot more articles from 2021. They played him at point guard. Silas (and maybe Stone) seem to have been obsessed with that idea for a while now.

Both about the same, but many lead players turn it over a lot, what was our record, that is what matters.
