An increase of $10M/yr would put his theoretical value at $17-$18M per year and we would be getting a high end IF prospect for 6 years as well who is only turning 21 in 2023 to cover the difference. I don't think the Astros would be the hold up on this type of deal. But we are quickly becoming one of the few remaining teams who can and would make such a proposal without a significant tax penalty. Many could, but wouldn't.
awwww...GM Bagwell realizing that Front Office work is a 24-7 job -- and it's hard! It takes a ton of diligence, gaining of trust, convincing... and more money. I'm guessing we are sticking to our initial valuations of our targeted players but the market has other ideas and the goal posts have been adjusted. Astros will likely have to cave on an offer, which will be tough for Crane to stomach, or roll with what we have.
Covering age 31-36 is just above his wheel house. Bregman 26-30 Altuve 28-34. McCullers 28-32 Alvarez 26-31
I’ve been trying to think of some trade candidates that are overpaid or fairly paid but way too expensive for a non-competitive team. As long as they are at least an average-above average player it could be a way to get some more farm talent using that 40M that’s going to start burning a hole in Crane’s pocket. This Winter: Kris Bryant Salvador Perez James McCann Madison Bumgarner Joey Votto Closer to deadline: Ohtani Yelich Grandal Stroman Strasburg (if he proves he can stay healthy and they chip in a ton of cash)
Gallo to twins on 1 year deal. Benentindi to white Sox on a 5 year deal. OF dominoes starting to fall. Conforto decision could be soon if I had to guess
That’s not a terrible deal for Benintendi but I am ok with Houston not going 5 years for him. So it’s looking like Conforto or Brantley or bust
I'm thinking it's looking like Brantley and that may be OK. Still love the idea of Conforto and this market makes the 2nd year gamble worth it. Conforto makes the #7 hitter impactful and probably ensures the best lineup in the AL. But I like the PA opportunities that you youngsters will get if it's nobody or even Bradley to some extent.
Based on splits, a classic platoon of Brantley and McCormick should provide a Bregman level bat. It all fits if they trade for a centerfielder.
Not sure Astros would need too send Brown back to AAA. 6 man rotation: Valdez, McCullers, Javier, Garcia, Brown, Kluber Pen: Pressly, Stanek, Montero, Abreu, Neris, Urquidy, Maton or Martinez
