Well dammit! Now I have to roll my SAMs back into my garage. I mean I no longer have a way to track a plane which Musk may or may not be on, since these accounts are banned on Twitter, so there goes my master plan.

Why? I thought it was a passive aggressive insult at first. Is my assumption wrong?

    incorrect.

Why do we keep beating this bush? We all understand screaming fire is not free speech. Nor is inciting violence or being an ahole and a whole myriad of other activities.

You are treating free speech as a free pass to do whatever you want w/out the repercussions of actions.

It's been amusing to watch a college professor politely educate someone who has intellectual challenges.

You can't be this naive about how the internet works. Elon makes up the rules now, he says he doesn't like people posting about locations of his jet. It literally does not matter whether this information is publicly available or reported to the police.

He doesn't like it, he said he will ban anyone that tweets it on his platform, and he did. I see nothing wrong with that. It's his rules and his own interpretation.

I really don't see why it matters it was journalists, or other people. they are twitter users, just like Trump was a twitter user, and he was banned.

    New management, new rules.

    I agree!

And I agreed about this mantra before Elon bought Twitter.

I guess my overall premise flew over your head.

I think the issue here is that Musk has taken steps to make the details of his personal jet private, and this student Sweeney figured it out anyway. And then he used publicly available flight trackers to signal to the world: "Here is where Elon Musk's jet is!"

That is an invasion of privacy, whether it's legal or not. And these journalists who insist on linking to Sweeney's Musk flight tracker because they consider it an important news story are arguably contributing to that invasion of privacy. I don't know if there's a formal definition of "doxxing", but if I was Musk and there was an incident that endangered my kid based on this information being out there, I'd probably consider it to be doxxing and very poor form on the part of these journalists.

Wow. There are limits, sure, being an ahole isn't one of them.

Nope. He wasn't doxxed. This information is publicly available and is not useful to people who want to stalk in real time. The entire poont that kid was making was showing his hypocrisy on trying to save the planet but his excessive private jet flying. That's it.

If this info that is already publicly available could be used to harras and stalk in real time than many more people would want that publicly available information to not be publicly available information anymore.

Elon's entire motive here isn't safety, rather him not wanting to be exposed as a massive hypocrite as jets disproportionately output CO2 as an entire 2.5% of all CO2 human output just comes from private jets.

Elon Musk was the wealthiest man in the world.... and to about 1/4 of the world money literally is the most important thing there is.... so the competition is incredibly fierce, and in that sense Elon Musk is an amazing person. He is also a great visionary.

Having said that - Musk is used to telling people what to do, and that isn't how social media works - he is out of his element and he is struggling with all of this. He overpaid for a social media platform that is valued by an aging demographic and he is trying to tackle an entirely new animal and failing at it.

I will say, that I don't actually think that Elon Musk is naturally a Republican, I think the fact he was endlessly praised and then his missteps were endlessly criticized by mostly the left has driven him more to the right. At the end of the day, he doesn't give a **** about a lot of social issues.

He's an amoral human who finds the easiest avenues to pander. It has nothing to do with him having no choice because of the left. He understands how easy it is to create mass cult of personality by validating the rhetoric of conservatives and right wingers that they are oppressed.

The left always hates billionaires. Liberals might have praised this dude years ago but leftists always hated him.

    That is not the point.

I never had a problem with Twitter 1.0 banning anyone. As I stated in previous comments, as the product (of the platform), you can be cancelled at anytime for any reason. ToS doesn't mean **** if you're the product.
However if the government is applying pressure on the back to to suppress certain individuals or groups on Twitter (or anywhere), then that is a legit concern. The true extent of this is unknown, but if its happening, it is wrong.

I also do not care about Musks 'free speech' claim. Its pandering, nothing more, nothing less. Its his platform and he is free to do whatever he wants. If you or anyone else dont like it, dont use it. Simple as that. And if the government is putting pressure on him to censor, that is a problem, just as it is with any other media platform, including Twitter 1.0.
