I've been posting this thought since the season started, once rosters went to 15, I think the likelihood of an EG trade went south for the winter.

I actually really like this one. Dunno how likely it is after he single-handedly destroyed the defending champions but that would be better than a late pick imo. I'd take Theis back too if that helps hey the deal done.

As long as Russell Westbrook remains on the Lakers, there is a possibility for Gordon to be involved in a trade. It's a big chunk of expiring salary that can help facilitate a trade.

I'm starting to think Eric Gordon is not real, he's just a figment of our collective imagination. Only we can see him. No one else. Commentators and players don't talk about it because they don't want to sound crazy. Think about it. Have you ever seen anyone have a live conversation with Eric Gordon?

Yeah we bought out John wall, we’re not gonna hold EG over a barrel on where he wants to play for the last half a season of his contract. Folks should get use to the idea that we may get absolutely nothing for Eric Gordon.

    https://theathletic.com/3992371/2022/12/12/bojan-bogdanovic-jae-crowder-shams-charania-inside-pass/

Multiple league sources said the Suns recently engaged in three-team talks that would have sent Crowder to Milwaukee, four Bucks second-round draft picks along with players to Houston, and Eric Gordon and/or Kenyon Martin Jr. to Phoenix. The hold up in the potential three-teamer was that the Rockets are coveting one first-round pick for Gordon, and for Martin a very good first-rounder, not a batch of second-rounders, according to sources. The Rockets have had interest in Gordon from several contending teams, sources said, but appear less willing to entertain the topic of Martin.

Martin has had a breakout third season, averaging 10.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 24.2 minutes while shooting 54 percent shooting from the field. The 21-year-old has this season and 2023-24 remaining on his contract and should command a strong extension next summer or a free agency offer in 2024. The Rockets have compiled eight first-round picks through 2029 and have a talented young core of players in Jalen Green, Kevin Porter Jr., Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith II, Tari Eason, Jae’Sean Tate and Martin.

    https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...le/Houston-Rockets-trade-options-17651050.php

There have been preliminary talks with roughly a half dozen teams, a person with knowledge of the situation said. Gordon is expected to be among the top targets for contenders (such as the Suns, who played the Rockets on Tuesday) looking for help to get over the top. Gordon’s ability to catch-and-shoot with range, to defend at a variety of positions, and to defer to other stars all make him an easy fit for already well-positioned teams.

Earning $19.6 million this season, however, he is between the mid-level and max contracts, dramatically shrinking the pool of players on contending teams who would work in a trade.

Though many teams can and would treat Gordon’s contract, non-guaranteed in 2023-24, as an expiring contract, the Rockets consider him to be signed for this season and next.

There is no urgency to move his contract to create cap room since next season is not guaranteed anyway, and the Rockets are already likely to have more cap room next summer than they need. If they trade him, they would be careful about bringing back a player or players with longer contracts or veterans who would cut court time of young players, with the Rockets already having trouble finding roles for some of the recent first-round picks.

Mostly, the Rockets’ position on dealing Gordon has not changed from last season, when the deadline passed without a trade of the Rockets’ most accomplished veteran.

The Rockets would primarily want a first-round pick, but since they are likely to be dealing with teams considered contenders, they would seek a pick improved either by having it come in future seasons or via another team. As was the case during last season’s trade talks, the Rockets have two first-round picks in the next draft and are not eager to add a third, especially having chosen many players in the past two drafts.

If GSW is really willing to move Kuminga, I'd even give 2 protected 1sts + Gordon for him.

The purpose of trading Gordon is to free up minutes for the young guys. Barrett is a starter and plays the same position as Gordon, and is more expensive. Unless you want to flip Barrett in another trade, getting him pretty much means you give up developing any of the young players to be our future starter.

I don’t mind the rockets driving a hard bargain for EG, but once Tate is back, EG’s roster spot will be truly detrimental to the development of some of our key prospects.

time to get a deal done. They’ve had years. It’s gonna get crowded real soon (already is).

I would do this. Make Herro fake a stress fracture though so we get a high pick.

    Herro - Green - Tari - Bari - Wemby

    Duncan - Garuba - KJ - Bruno - TyTy

Barrett is also a young player, he's 22. I suspect the rockets view young players like him as prospects just like their other players and picks.

Now, I'm not saying I would do that specific deal. But, we shouldn't be afraid of trading for other young players that might earn minutes over our existing players. If anything, that might mean it was a really good trade.

I really like this idea. It might alleviate some of the fear opposing GMs have of trading a 1st for an aging short wing player.
