They are great when their broadcast isn't blocked on the net by 790 because of a pickup high school game of tiddly winks.
Aren't you talking about Steve Sparks and Robert Ford? The radio guys? When 790 runs something else the game is on 740 instead... right? I have know idea how that impacts streaming the audio... I just know that's how it works when i'm on the road.
If Brantley is willing, it would definitely be in the Astros best interest to have him wait it out until he’s healthy.
Yes. I forgot I can't get streaming video anymore because I don't want to pay $200/m. for lousy service I wouldn't otherwise use just for baseball. Switched to 790 after KOGT stopped broadcasting and they interupt for any and all reasons. Thus the tiddly winks comment.
Nobody is signing Brantley until he is healthy. He wants to play here and no one is going offer big money for him either. He will be an Astro assuming we still want him which we will assuming he is healthy. I expect a 2 year deal at around 12 million per if he passes the physical.
I can't believe that...almost sounds like those "Uncle Drayton" being cheap again post/calls. Come on Jim Crane...
Why would it be dangerous? Brantley hit well even when injured. Conforto hasn't had a good season since 2020 and is coming off an injury that prevents him from playing a full season. They also want a 2 guaranteed seasons of salary with a players option Verlander had.
Would it make sense to sign both and hope at least 1 of them pans out? To your point, I am hopeful Brantley can play at least 100 games with most being at DH and making sure he is healthy for the playoff run so we are unlikely to have a hole at DH like we did last year (which was infuriating). I do think both or one of Hensley or Diaz will step up and at least provide good depth where we can rely on them in the playoffs more if it comes to that.
I think the team is almost complete as is. Obviously a catcher is needed. Either to be on ML roster or AAA as insurance. Other than that I think the current roster is solid enough until the trade deadline. Altuve Pena Yordan Bregman Tucker Abreu McCormick Meyers Maldy Sign Brantley if he's healthy and as cheap as we think he will be. Hensley, Y.Diaz, Matijevic, and Dubon fill out the roster getting various plate appearances filling in as needed moving up and down from AAA depending on needs. Leon, Julks, or Dirden could force himself into the discussion with good play and need
Conforto has played at least 100 games every non-lockout season he's been in the league, other than last season. Brantley has missed that mark three times, including last year. Both are coming off shoulder surgery but Conforto has had longer to recover and is 6 years younger. FWIW, when healthy, Conforto has been more productive for his career. Hits for a lower average but similar OBP due to walks and a higher OPS overall due to better power numbers.
He’s old, busted up, unlikely to be able to play the field, lost almost all power and might be cooked. 2 years is a dangerous deal.
Conspiracy theory: Crane is saving his money to go after Ohtani next offseason. They’ll go over the tax in 2024 but after that they’ll have Bregman, Neris, Pressly, and possible Brantley coming off the books. McCullers and Yordan are the only contracts on the books after 2025.
i hope not. West coast preference for Asian players is real. Now, if we were talking about Shohei Alvarez Gurriel from Cuba, I’m all in.
The franchise really does what it takes to keep MMP updated and looking fresh. When ballpark shelf life seems to be getting shorter and shorter, MMP is over 20 years but it does not look "old." I can't say the same for NRG, other than updating the video screens once (to an awkward, extra wide but still short screen, so it is still not usable edge to edge).
