I thought I was the only one who didn't hate Silas and want him fired .....

I think he's done a hell of a job thus far when you break down the offense and see the growth of individual players.

Do not extend. See what things look like after the all star break. If our trajectory is positive, let him play into his 4th year and make a decision then.

They've looked better lately, but this is the third year in a row where the team hits a streak at this time of the year. In Silas' first year following the Harden trade they won 6 in a row and people were saying we didnt need Harden, things fell apart shortly after. The same thing happened last year, there was a streak of games where they looked to have turned a corner, not really getting my hopes up too much here, but hoping for the best.

I like Silas too, its time to snag him for cheap before the contending teams try and give him a long offer... He can be The Rockets forever coach!

Stephen Silas is a very good person.

Stephen Silas is a bad head coach.

The Rockets defense has improved some, not a shocker with Hollins work with them and having defenders like Smith and Eason.

John Hollinger was just talking about how it is obvious to people in the game that Silas isn’t a good NBA head coach.

He doesn’t create or take advantage of mismatches. He doesn’t put his players in positions to thrive and he fails to draw up plays to maximize their strengths and he doesn’t adapt his style to the players he has… his rotations are not creative and don’t maximize talent. It isn’t all about W/L either. You look at the Thunder and you can tell their coach is good.

I think very highly of Stephen Silas as a person. He just isn’t a good NBA head coach.

Also I am sick of hearing that Silas lead the Mavs offense. Silas was in charge of the offense and ran a Carlisle offense which is huge on spacing and mismatches. When the Mavs would struggle offensively, Carlisle would often step in.

I hope he succeeds and is the next championship coach for the Houston Rockets. I don't think so, don't like the offense I've seen with him as the coach, or the rotations. I hope this is his last season as coach. But you better believe I'm cheering my butt of for him and for me to be wrong!!

First of all, i feel sorry for Silas' loss. He is probably having harder times that we could imagine. With that being said, there are a lot of coaching issues about this team which are not addressed enough:

1- Gordon still starts and having heavy minutes at 3. This is not only harming the progress of Tari who is a very very good prospect but also we are about to lose kmj as an asset due to lack of management.

2- jabari is said to be a dedicated worker and surely it pays off well. He should be getting a lot more touches in offense rather than many forced 3's we have by our guards.

3- all the offensive problems seems to trigger each other which are lack of playmaking, low assist, forced shots, not utilizing jabari, alpi and others properly etc. Offensive scheme should change completely to become more efficient and fluid.

Defensive lapses seems to be worked out to a degree that we can win games now which we should objectively point out as a positive. But defensive assignments and plans are responsibility of asst. as far as we know and he should be credited mostly. Wish we were to see same level of improvement on offensive scheme but unfortunately it's not the case at this point.

I'll give him till the end of this season. If the players are developing well and on their way to reaching their potential, he will have done the most important part of his job thus far. I don't know a coach in NBA history who would have made these particular rosters play organized, poised NBA basketball the past two seasons. As far as I'm concerned, all the rookies and sophomores are developing well. JC is probably the only exception, which is 1 out of 7 prospects.

After that he gets a shot at the playoffs, and this team will easily make the playoffs next season. I bet the organization has promised him a shot at making the playoffs if he stuck around for the rebuild.

I still think he has a chance to be a good coach but he hasn't had a chance to prove it yet.

Silas seems to be doing a good job developing the young players. He keeps things consistent in terms of minutes played, roles and responsibilities on the court, etc. Some posters complain about him yanking players when they make mistakes, but I don't see that.

He is also emotionally consistent (sometimes to the point of pathological positivity) whether the team wins or loses. This is helpful for a young team that's losing a lot of games.

In terms of winning basketball games, it's hard to assess Silas's abilities because that's obviously not the Rockets' priority this year.

So, he's got the young players improving and buying in despite the losses. And he's also got the team heading toward another high lottery pick.

    No complaints from me.

The offensive scheme has actually been really good, at least in terms of generating open shots as compared to league average - they are statistically at or near the top of the league in both this year and last.
I won't bore you with the actual stats - I've pointed them out in relation to individual players countless times as it is, it won't change the narrative around here anyway ...

What hasn't happened is the players cashing in on those open looks - they've been a rather mediocre to low percentage shooting team, particularly from distance.

The fact that Silas offense has generated those looks in volume while being executed by a bunch of 1st and 2nd year players says an awful lot about the scheme and the job he's done getting them to execute it.

I think most of the pissing and whining about the offense comes from one statement Silas made last year about being a vanilla offense .... Some on here take everything literally and run with it until its morphed into something it was never meant to be.
Silas had a system, he just didn't take the training wheels off because they couldn't execute simple things.

Last season they scored a ton of points and were among the league leaders in pace until they shut down to end the season .... there were several times they put up 130 or more points and lose.

What they couldn't do was stop anyone ..... and I think you have to charge that up to being so young and being such a short team in general running EG out of position at the 3 spot or Tate & KJ at the 4 spot.

I like what Silas has done with literally all these young guys and they play their asses off for him.

There's gonna be some whiny pissy fans when he's still running the show to start next year and even worse if he earns an extension beyond that ..... but if he somehow gets next season's team into the playoffs, I think he'll have earned that extension.

I would appreciate taking a look at those stats and I wonder how they were evaluated.

    Last game 3 pts:

    Eg: 2/6
    JG: 2/8
    Kpj: 1/7
    Matthews: 1/4

Smith: 3/3 from 3pt and took 5 shots in total. Even it's true and all those shots were selected well, i believe a coach should call the plays and ride the hot hand.

Sometimes it feels like guards have the freedom of Kobe and running amok. It can't only be me can it?

No thanks! He is a nice guy and I feel bad for him for losing his dad but he is just not a very good coach.
