Kenyon Martin senior was a tough dude on court, you couldn't really walk over him, a below average No 1 overall pick though. Highly ambitious.
He will NOT be the last, players want oportunities, if I am Christopher, KMJ, anyone that is not a rookie.....I would be saying, play me or get me out of here. DD
Some of y'all need a hug. 'She don't want you bro'...gotta move on. I agree with some of y'all that he should be starting him and we should prioritize trading Gordon. Then, we can start KJ. But, what about if/when Tari outplays him and deserves the starting nod. Or, if we get a good PG and move KPJ to the 3. Or draft a forward with our pick that's ready to start? It's pretty wild for someone to demand to start in his situation. My only guess is that he's worried it will be tough to get a good contract as backup on a bad team.
This is all pretty stupid. The minutes should be available here. Unless Martin just believes being in a contender is better for his career/next contract or he just doesn’t like there, I don’t get it from his perspective either. The Rockets will have the money to pay him, he fits well with the main guys here, plus once EG is moved he’ll likely see a significant bump in minutes and role.
Martin's been getting 20 to 25 pretty meaningful minutes per game. I can't really see any other team giving him much more than that. On the other hand, it looks like his minutes have dropped to around 20 to 21 minutes these past four games. Maybe he's expecting it to drop more, with Eason improving and Tate making his inevitable return.
I think we have to take into consideration that this was a "Bleacher Report" story and that there was no quote involved .... I think it reads as an opinion story and the statement was "Multiple Sauces believe" .... I don't like to take anonymous sauces like they are gospel truth .... And then there's the fact that he's gotten considerable minutes and had a big role all season ....
KMJ has basically no leverage here if he wants out. He’s getting 20 minutes per and on a team friendly deal.
Look this is a business, it is all about that 2nd contract a guy off the bench will not demand as much as a guy that is a starter putting up good stats. KMJ wants to make that money - he wants to start, he has EARNED a starters spot, if he doesn't get it here he can threaten to walk as an UFA after next year....and force the org to trade him. It is just good business. DD
that’s fair but we also know that he wanted out this summer and that his father is not a supporter of the organization. So I agree BR isn’t very credible; they’re likely just repackaging an old rumor for the trade deadline. But to me there’s logic in a mutual departure as long as the rockets are fairly compensated. I feel like he’d be starting or playing even more minutes if they were committed to him. I mean, they extended KPJ and Tate, and play them more minutes than KMJ. He’s basically 7th in the team priority pecking order.
If the Rockets keep him, no one will be able outbid them for KMJ as they have Bird rights and he will be a RFA (not a UFA). No one will likely give him significantly more PT. He can threaten to walk all he wants, but he can't force anything that gets him more money or more PT than what the Rockets give him. It is just good business.
