There is a difference between being released in MLB and the NFL. Being released in MLB means you still get paid the balance of your contract and are also a FA. In the NFL, you stop getting paid.

I don’t know if he’d turn that down. The three years of Arb $$ with that deal might be more than enough too offset him averaging 27.5 mil a season for the last seven years. At some point Crane is gonna pay the right guy and with only 44.5 on the books in 2026, it looking like Tucker and/or Valdez are it. Someone made a good point these long term deals won’t look as bad in 5-10 years as the $$ keeps growing, even if the player flames out.
Tucker or Pena (assuming he keeps up the trajectory) are who I'd want getting the long-term deal. Between Javier and Valdez, easily the former. I have a feeling that pitch to contact grounder isn't going to age as well as swing and miss (and that's without accounting for the shift rules). You know, it's kind of strange how pitchers are always the ones getting the super high AAV deals. Position players are the ones playing every day.
