I agree, but it’s market. Compare it to Bogaerts deal — he’s 2 years younger than him. Basically, you can think of it that he got a 2 year, $70 million contract (equal to not opting out in Minnesota, more or less), followed by 11 years / 280 — what Bogaerts got. And I think Correa has more value than Xander.

He bet on himself and a better market environment and he won big time.

I'm not mad at him, I'm happy he got paid.... but he's already 28 and he's struggled to stay healthy already in his career. Committing to him till he's 41 is incredibly foolish. He'll most likely be unplayable WAY before that.

They’ll be fine. They’ll get an even bigger chunk of ad revenue once the A’s leave the market.

Good for Correa, I'll always like him for his defense of the Astros. He got his total dollars worth that'll last him to 41. Though, every time he faces the Astros.. I hope he strikes out only.

These contracts are just insane, considering the entire team was sold for the value of 2 of these contracts 10 years ago..

Correa Cashed. Earned it. Their team will get better by just focusing on the details because of Correa's Leadership. Did that in Minny. And his defense will help the pitchers. His legacy however is likely to die in San Francisco. He only gets 2+ additional dingers at oracle. And I think, his legacy needed to tie into the Yanks or Dodgers for him to get HOF votes. That said, SF spends money so it's possible the franchise takes a turn on talent and that could push his cause.

I know it's more of a balanced schedule so he'll be facing the Dodgers less, but every time he does, I hope he goes 3-5 with 2 homers and 6 RBI and the Dodgers lose every game. :)

Correa was an idiot, overvalued himself, should have taken our gracious deal. Crazy how many people were invested in Correa striking out in free agency.

More than doubled his guaranteed earnings..by quite a bit. They played it smart.

Great for Carlos! Glad he’s going to the NL and to a rival of the Dodgers. Not to the Yankees or Red Sox so great

It will be interesting to see 3 years from now Pena's production vs Correa's.

What if Pena wins league MVP and another ring with another WS MVP...

Maybe we should lock Peña up now :). Give him Cranes first 10 year deal to cover his arb years and the initial FA years.

There’s a lot of recency bias with Pena at the moment. He had a fantastic post-season… and a solid rookie year… but he’s still got some deficiencies at the plate that tend to be more noticeable over a long season.

Granted, he did make some adjustments in leg kick/pitch recognition towards the end of the season, so perhaps the development is commencing…. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if he struggles for some stretches next year as the league continues to exploit holes/weakness’

As a sports fan, I can stomach tanking a season - which is convenient since I’m an Astros fan AND a Texans fan.

What I would be more adverse to is the inverse scenario: going all out and spending ludicrous amounts of money for players who aren’t consistently the top 3 in their position. Multiple franchises seem to be buying into this strategy this off-season. At least with tanking, you’re almost guaranteed to get much better very quickly (re: Astros). Mets, Padres, Giants, etc risk being hamstrung for 7+ years if these deals don’t work out.

As a fan I’d be extremely disappointed in this unsustainable model of mega-deals vs the Astros approach of building for sustained success.

Happy for CC, but as the Yankees find out every year sometimes a player securing his bag is immediately followed by a drop in production since that incentive is no longer there.
