I was just about to write that 4 years would not be out of the question to cover ages 32, 33, 34 and 35 seasons. It also creates an incentive to split time for one year before taking over for 3.

Yeah, I don't hate it. We know he works well with the pitching staff. Let him learn more from Maldy, take over when Maldy's contract is over, then split reps with Diaz or Lee.

Yeah. I was arguing in favor of that saying limit on a catcher should be 100 games, tops, as long as we are in the stage where we are clowning fools in our division.

You know the facts! They might trade a pitcher but I bet they sign another if they do.

He’s 32 years old, has two World Series rings and has been an all star. What the **** is it that he needs to learn from Maldy? Son of a ****ing b**** this trope from our fan base is infuriating.

Wonder who this could be. Hearing Cubs and Twins are both involved, with the Padres also a team to watch.

Astros went into the offseason having needs at 1B, C, and LF. Assuming they sign Vazquez, they will have inked the best free agent 1B and the 2nd best free agent C. 2 of the top 3 pure LF remain on the market in Benintendi and Brantley (Pederson being the other one; Judge and Haniger are more RF and Nimmo and Bellinger are CF). Abreu, Vazquez, and Brantley would be a solid albeit slightly underwhelming offseason, but it would leave Houston with plenty of ammo to strike on late-offseason bargains (possibly in the bullpen) as well as float team-friendly extensions. A 7-8-9 of Brantley-McCormick-Vazquez isn't going to be tops in the league, but its plenty solid to contend again.

    Out/In:
    Gurriel/Abreu UPGRADE
    A Diaz/Hensley PUSH
    Mancini/Meyers&Brantley UPGRADE
    Verlander/McCullers&Brown DOWNGRADE
    Odorizzi/Brown UPGRADE

I just used an overworked Maldonado with 113 starts as my model. I wouldn't argue with 100.

Brantley was quietly having a very impressive season at the plate last year before the injury. If he's healthy then it wouldn't be any surprise to see him float a .340+ wOBA next season. The guy has had an xwOBA south of .350 once in the past five years and that was the pandemic season when no one on the Astros could hit.

I like those players called professional hitters. Brantley has earned it and Hensley appears to have metamorphosed his game in 2020 becoming a high OBP guy.

Not sure Maldy would be interested in staying under those circumstances. I get the feeling he would have retired had he not been asked to stay for one final year.

I said he looks slightly above average. I know Murphy is an upgrade defensively. It's a fair point on Murphy getting out of the coliseum....

Funny how all this is suddenly HOT after he (Vasquez) posted his Astros Championship photo yesterday.

i don’t disagree with you on the playoffs, but I think Bassitt’s value to Toronto is fairly high given the tough division. They are no locks to even make the playoffs and his regular season contributions would matter a lot.

Are there any actual rumors about a Bryant trade or just a conversation on here about what people would like to happen?

32-15 68 starts 3.13 ERA 1.11 WHIP in 2 years plus the shortened 2020 season.

Extremely reliable (only time he missed I believe was taking that shot to his head).

I can't say JV is a better value signing over this Bassitt signing. I think this is one of the most reasonable signings this entire off season. Add on the fact that the Mets could find themselves on the hook for 35 million in his year 42 season even after appearing to be done in 2024. So in reality we are comparing 3/122 for JV.

I’d love to have Vasquez back, hope we get it done.
