brunson is on a very mediocre knicks team (who would be garbage without him) and plays for one of the least creative and worst offensive coaches in the nba

i'd be happy if kpj got his turnovers down to harden level. It certainly wouldn't make him a starting level player because of how bad he is overall on offense but it would be a start

Mediocre is much better than anything KPJ has played on in Houston and Brunson was not much better playing with Luka.

Brunson played with Carlisle and was not much better.

    Thanks for making my point.

Dude. If KPJ made 2 more shots on the same number of attempts per game he would go from a 41.3% shooter to a 54.2% shooter. That is a MASSIVE difference. Which is the point I’m trying to make. You keep saying 2 shots is not a big difference. It is. Just like a 5% difference in TS% is massive, no matter how much you think it isn’t, it really truly is.

I’m not ignoring anything. I’m merely the one pointing out that you trying to act like Brunson and KPJ are similar is foolish. You then pointing out the reasons that they shouldn’t be compared to each other only further makes your original comparison of the two more weird.

I’m not worried about the outcomes of the games in this discussion. I’m worried about accurately accessing the level of player KPJ currently is and the likely outcomes of what he can become based on that.

You just made my point for me its not a huge deal making 2 more shots a game is not the reason we are losing games or does not make a mediocre team a contender.

The difference between the best offensive team and the worst offensive team in the league is just 12 points per 100 possessions. That's just six made 2pt shots or 4 made 3pt shots more, or about 1 made 3pt shot more per quarter. According to jiffyfly's logic, that's no big deal. We might as well be the worst offense and not that much different from the best.

Why are you arguing stats with someone who has shown again and again that they don’t understand them?

Can't blame him, when you look at the bigger picture, winning championships is no big deal either.

Games can literally b decided with 2 more buckets than the opposing team. Dumb@$$ thinking two more made buckets ain't a big deal.

If our defense is poor, then u just got to score more.

KPJ had a .511 3p attempt rate. So 2 shots per game for him is slightly over 5 points per game.

If you look at last year, we were 20-62. If you look at our Pythagorean expectation, we should have been 21-61, pretty close. If KPJ made 2 more shots per game, considering his shot selection, that moves our Pythagorean expectation all the way up to 33-49. That's a 12 win increase. That's a pretty big deal!

Or alternatively, if you want to just go through our game log, we lost 9 games by less than 5 points, so that flips 9 wins. And we had 2 games that we lost by exactly 5, so we move those to overtime. So those two buckets would have been worth either 9, 10, or 11 extra wins. Seems like a big deal to me

    lol yep

As of now we have -5.9 point differential which projects us to be a team that wins 30.5% of our games or 25.07 over 82 games

Add 4 points a game to that and our differential is at -1.9 which projects us to be a team wins 43.7% of our games or 35.87 over 82.

Add 6 points a game and our differential is +0.1 which projects us to be a team that wins 50.3% of our games or 41.27 over 82.

Just two shots a game if those shots happen to be 3s is roughly a 16 win difference for a team over 82 games.

Rockets just beat a good team so KPJ gets spared his usual whipping, we'll reconvene after the next loss.

In most cases KPj would need to go up in turnovers to reach Harden...not down

Comparing KPJ to Harden is possibly the dumbest thing ever

you literally picked out ONE harden season and ignored all the others. For houston, harden TO% was 15.6 and KPJ is 17.7. To me, 15.6 is less then 17.7 (i know some disagree, but that's my math). If KPJ could drop his TO% by 2%, it would be an improvement.
