I don't think Lovie will be fired. Pep is as good as gone but because of the one and done nature of the Culley experience, they're not going to fire another head coach after one year. And to Lovie's credit the defense has improved a bit, even with all the injuries, so he has a partially amputated leg to stand on there but the offense has been putrid. I think we'll be getting a new qb coach, oc, and probably rb and wr coaches as well. Don't be surprised to see Josh McCown coming in as qb coach
Start of 2023: Hire a bunch of new offensive coaches End of 2023: Fire Lovie and thus all the new offensive coaches Start of 2024: Start over, yet again Oh and start the cycle of taking a top pick QB and ruining them by changing offensive coaching staffs every year. GM should hire the head coach he wants head coach should hire the staff he wants When a team keeps not doing this, you get the Texans.
This would mean getting rid of Caserio as well. I imagine a guy like Payton or Harbaugh is going to want and have quite a bit of say in personnel decisions.
You don't turn down Sean Peyton to keep Caserio any more than you turn down Peyton Manning to keep Matt Schaub. Caserio has done nothing of note to earn his job, outside of being friends with Easterby.
Kubiak was the GM in his first year… brought on Smith later to manage the cap. If the Texans have a coach in mind who is qualified and actually wants to come here, let him figure out who he can work with on the personnel side.
Payton is going to Denver, Cal can't **** with Walmart money I'm all for bringing in both, Brady as oc, McCown qb coach I agree with you but unless Caserio is getting fired I don't think Cal will let him pick another head coach. I'm sure they'll provide Lovie with a list of oc candidates and let him pick that way but Lovie has never had a prolific offense anywhere he's coached, not to mention he chose Pep, so maybe having Caserio dummy proof the hire for him may engender success
Watch...During the offseason Caserio's going to fire Lovie and then hire some dude you ain't never heard of before that no other team is interested in hiring.
In the perfect scenario, Lovie gets "promoted" to senior football consultant and DeMeco comes in and brings steals some of Kyle's offensive staff with him
Chargers? Broncos? Colts (already open) Panthers (already open) Browns? Cardinals? Rams? (McVay retirement?) Texans? Get in line.
There is no worse coaching spot in football than Houston. They’re going to end up with another David Culley or Lovie Smith type hire (a candidate that no other team would have offered a HC position to). And that’s presuming they keep the GM… who again won’t have much of a final say on who they go after.
