Barnhart and Navaez would be the type of reserve C that 90% of the league would hope too have.

I think if the Astros want a starter, Bassitt, Eovaldi are atop the board. I’d rather take a flier on Kluber or Grienke on the under 10 mil 1yr type deals.

I expect Alvarez in LF 90+ games and McCormick 25 and Leon 25. I think Meyers to play CF if he makes it back to expectations before his injury. I'm leaving the starts for Hensley in the infield and DH.

While I'm hoping Brantley returns, I am not expecting it, so he's not in my projection.

Leon has played both CF and SS so that's super utility. Hensley is utility IF and one of McCormick/Meyers is utility OF (the other being the Starter). If Leon is a total bust (which I do not expect) he will be an upgrade over Dubon. But I expect him to be A Diaz good. Each gets time at DH. C2 will be determined in Spring Training. I'm good with rolling with these if we can't improve a position substantially on a reasonable contract.

I have never believed it was a good idea to compete with stupidity which is what I believe we have seen in Free Agency.

Maybe. Astros are in a great position in 2026 at the moment only have McCullers and Alvarez with guaranteed deals at 44.5 mil + about 20 mil in ARB for Dubon, L. Garcia, Abreu, Pena, Meyers and McCormick. I would not be shocked if one of Tucker or Valdez is extended before 2026.

Astros can still add $80 mil in payroll for any number of Altuve, Bregman, Javier, Stanek, Pressly, etc and still about 70-80 mil under the CBT in 2026.

Speculative Proposal using players in lieu of cash to balance Rockies cash dump.

    Astros get:
    Bryant DH
    Romo C
    Tovar 2B
    Gomber LRP

    Rockies get:
    Dubon Uti
    Maton RRP

Gomber is a project who would be a seventh SP or Bullpen Lefty
Romo and Tovar are still in the minors but with higher potential than many of those in our system.

The cost is Bryant performing better than his projection. His 6 remaining years cost $28M, $28M, $27M, $27M, $27M and $27M. AAV lower because of $18M 2022.

This is definitely high risk - high reward. But it adds to the Farm rather than taking away from it.

It's about value. Taking him straight up is a bailout. Taking cash or prospect value along with him is simple economics.

But I do not anticipate the Rockies being in a cash dump mood if it cost them prospects. They can handle a bad contract.

He would refuse it. It's actually a good offer since it covers 3 arbitration years. But visions of sugar plumbs are bouncing in their heads right now.

Other than being a left handed bat with good defense, how much is that an improvement over Meyers? Meyers was a good defender as a prospect and in 2021. I haven't heard if he's suddenly bad in the OF. But I don't want in under 100 OPS+ CFer starting.

$330M tax bracket without Nimmo. In the 90% tax bracket. So Nimmo is effectively costing them $40M per year.

I have to say I love me some Nimmo.

I have to say losing organizations overpay their own guys.

Mets are basically the same team swapping Degrom for Verlander. Atlanta is going to be healthier so Mets probably playing for wildcard despite all the crazy money.

Nope. The Astros openly stated a few years ago that if Whitley had stayed healthy he would have been called up and planned to use in the playoffs.
