interesting. Would need to be a ton of money you would think. Does the full amount count towards the tax limit, or just the net paid?
Depending on his medicals, that could be great get. His contract suddenly doesn't look so bad in this economy. Can play 1B, 3B, OF and Dh to keep him fresh. Would give us huge injury insurance on top of his everyday bat at DH.
It’s a 6 year, $158 million deal right now. If they are kicking in a ton of cash, and the prospect haul is small, it might look like a decent deal compared to what’s out there in the current market.
This is so moronic I don't even have words. Brown actually has been successful, in a small sample size in the MLB, to the point he made a playoff roster on an all time pitching staff, and he won the pitching triple crown in AAA this year. Give me a ****ing break. I'm not saying that didn't happen, but comparing the 2 is absolutely ludicrous and you know that, or you damn well should.
If the Astros want a veteran SP, how about Johnny Cueto? Nice bounce back season with the White Sox. Could be an innings eater if healthy for about 140-160 innings with a 3.75-4 ERA.
I’d put Conforto in CF and split Brantley and Yordan LF/DH and Chas is your 4th OF. We got lucky with injuries last year only missing Brantley and you saw how the DH spot was a complete zero in the playoffs. I want better depth this year.
Whatever they thought a FA was worth in years 2 weeks ago add 2-3 years at tye same AAV or give up and look for trades.
@Nook If true, I cannot believe it. The acquiring team essentially gets Bryant for 6yr/$26.3M per, and that's assuming Colorado doesn't eat a penny. Can play all 4 corners and DH. If he can hit 290 with an 850 OPS that would be a STEAL given how the market is shaping up. Maybe they know something we don't regarding his medicals, but definitely kick the tires if they are legitimately looking to unload him. It was really, REALLY weird that they gave him the deal they did, made no sense at the time.
He has seen some time in CF but he's really more of a corner OF, especially coming off the injury. Honestly, all 3 of Conforto/Brantley/Benintendi have medical red flags. Benintendi is probably the safest bet but if he wants more than 3/$51M, I'd take a look at the trade market.
If you’re Benintendi, and you just saw Nimmo get 8 years at $162 million, you’re demanding 5 years $100 million in this market. I really think it may end up being something creative like Kris Bryant or a trade for one of the Diamondbacks outfielders.
If Bryant is healthy he would be amazing. The if is the big part though. I wonder how much the Rockies are willing to eat of that salary. They paid about 25% of Arenado's contract when they unloaded him to St Louis.
If they didn't wanna add money I would ask for Bryant, prospects Adeal Amador and Gabriel Hughes. I'd send them Jake Meyers, Phil Maton, Forrest Whitley and Tyler Whitaker. This way we can free up some space and add a Future 2B that will have e to transform from a SS.
Less prospect cost if you pay full rate though…Seems Crane could afford it and still have ~15M of space umber CBT to play with for catcher or pitching depth.
