No problem. They'll receive Disaster Relief Assistance soon enough...

A .234 career hitter with a .738 slugging % and you're giving away the farm?

What are some of you people thinking? Seriously.

Well you're not is the problem.

Fans have a terrible habit of overvalueing their own players but at the same time have crazy dreams of what other team's players really are. It's bizarro world.

A mediocre inning eater who is entering arbitration plus a bum like Kessinger is "the farm"? LOL. Not at all high on Urquidy but I bet the DBacks will value him highly because of the Strom factor (and Strom LOVED him and was VERY high). Diaz is a good prospect, but just a prospect and not proven. We'd still have Brown, Gilbert, Leon, Lee, Melton, and others. Not at all emptying the farm. Varsho would catch about 55 games, and play outfield for 100. As a catcher Varsho is not at all a garbage hitter, and as a lefty pull hitter he will feast on our short porch and low wall in RF.

The Mets arguably have the best team in MLB now.

Will the Mets pay Bassitt too? We could use him.

Lose Degrom, gain a much older Verlander.

    Sign their own players.

    Didn't win a playoff series in 2022.

I will have to disagree on this one.

At least the Yankees don't get Nimmo like was rumored. They'll probably chase Conforto now.

To be fair, they already had Nimmo last year.. all they did was add verlander and lose degrom… but sure, on paper, 130 mil per year for 4 players is a lot of paper.

What’s so wild to me is that the Astros model is what works. It’s proven. Instead of more teams trying to emulate the Astros, you have teams trying to spend and go toe to toe with each other and have pissing competitions.

The Orioles and Tigers are on the right track. They’ve built a young core through the draft and have prospects on the way.

The Padres WERE on the right track and they sold the farm for Soto and a couple others and it’s going to come back and bite them in the ass. Washington made out like bandits in that deal and I can probably put them in the Baltimore/Detroit class based on that deal alone.

The Yankees and Mets are going to be in financial hell in a couple years. I don’t care how much money Cohen and Steinbrenner have. If they don’t get the results they want and QUICK- heads will roll.

I would imagine that most owners aren’t very happy with the way Cohen is doing business. He’s literally ruining the market but the owners who try to follow suit are just doing teams like the Astros a huge favor- the more and more teams who invest long term money and contracts into players who won’t even sniff the value they’re paid, just increases the odds of the Astros’ continuous dominance as long they stay true to their model.

Their SP is too thin to be considered the best team in MLB. JV, Scherzer, Carrasco, Peterson and then question marks like Megill, elisier Hernandez.

Brown has actually shown to be good in AAA and, from the limited usage, can be a bona-fide TOR in the big league. He's started real games and used in the playoffs with success. Brown's hype is more legit than Whitley's back then.

A season is a very long time. And they may not be done.

I think the Mets/Cohen are an island unto themselves. They can and will literally spend themselves into contention. Cohen could add Rodon, Bassitt, or whoever the hell he wants. And then keep buying. No, he can’t buy team chemistry, but he sure as hell can buy talent. Baseball is ridiculously unpredictable in the post season, so I’m not saying the Mets are for sure gonna win a title. But spending to accumulate talent does dramatically increase your odds of winning in a 162 game reg season

I know it’s different with arbitration, but how the hell is Nimmo guaranteed more than Yordan. Good god, glad think we extended him when we did. These deals are insane. 8 years and 162 for Brandon Nimmo?! Glad it’s not the Stros

Part of it has to do with Alvarez's contract ate his 3 arbitration years.

Conforto market value on spotrac is 21M. Benentendi 17.4M. Brantley 8M.

This sucks. Crane either gives up big assets via trade or we pay the piper. Or we do nothing. I do not like this.
