I don't think fame has anything to do with it. It's as if you believe negotiations for prisoner releases happen in public. No, all the people you are b****ing about that are "left behind" are being probed the same amount as Griner for possible prisoner swaps behind the scenes. That's exactly what that random athlete on Twitter found out when he got information from other sources.

That's why the families of the other people aren't outraged like you because they know the state department is working on their exchanges. The US state department isn't going to say no to a US citizen being released because they couldn't get all of them. They'll get whatever they can.

Russia saying yes to Griner and no to others, isn't the US prioritizing Griner.

This narrative exists because it's spicy and generates hate content which is profitable as it's the most engaging type of content(more comments, back and forths etc)

The people defending this are idiots. This sets a terrible precedent. A WNBA player for an arms dealer makes no sense whatsoever. Idiots like @fchowd0311 will always virtue signal like I said earlier. "Take what you can get" might be the most ridiculous thing I've read on here

You’re a fool if you think her fame didn’t expedite her release.
    That’s just foolish.
There is no way in hell, if she didn’t have some fame that she would be released over others wrongfully detained.
    That’s the definition of elitism

An arms dealer that was going to be released naturally in a few years from his minimum 25 year sentence he received... Such a danger to society that we were willing to release him in a few years.

    Elitism?

Let me be plain. If you think the state department wants political points to appease and pander to the broadest set of American voters, they would have done the deal for Whelan instead because in terms of favoeraibloty and likeability rankings between the two, the former Marine is much higher.

No, you want to believe in the outrage version because it hits your dopamine receptors. The reality is the state department is on the background constantly probing for ways to get the others back home. Russia decided to let her be the one to say yes to. And the US took it.

And I can see now why Putin would say yes to Griner specifically. Because he knows our country is full of outrage reactionaries with just another drop in the good ol American culture wars bucket

You are plain, plain as day. If you believe the bolded part, you are truly lost in your radicalization.

Yes I'm radicalized to believe that if the Biden administration wanted to do a pure political move to pander to the widest set of voters to help in election chances in the future he would chose the Marine over the lesbian WNBA player and the fact that he didn't shows that the US is just getting what they can get.

And this is a case of Schrodinger's WNBA. It's unpopular to the point people meme about how unpopular it is but it's popular enough to make a lesbian black woman more favorable in the American electorate than a former Marine according to the political calculations of the Biden administration.

It takes 2 to play ball. Russia wasn’t taking an L on this deal with the joke of an invasion they have going on at home.

What do people want Biden do, invade Russia?

This is just not accurate, whatsoever.
He pandered to his base, took the deal for a “celebrity”
    End of discussion.

Why would Biden pander to his base? Is there any threat of the people who have empathy towards Griner going to magically vote republican if he didn't do this?

It's a silly political move because the opportunity cost with the lashback isn't worth pandering to "the base".

So, you would have said....nah, you can keep her, we don't like the deal? You act like we have more of a say in who russia is willing to deal with. I wish we would have gotten PW also but it's not in the cards right now and while I don't love it, it's better than the alternative which is nothing.

How do you know what he's capable of still doing? That's a massive assumption on your end. Griner got herself into this situation on sheer stupidity. Give up this guy for her makes no sense but the only reason you actually care is virtue signaling like I said. If this was Von Wafer nobody (including yourself) would care.

Also most definitely is due to the race as well. Imagine the left's outrage if we only negotiated for Paul (a white man) and left the poor black woman in prison. Biden would be getting flamed and immediately called a racist. He had no choice but to choose the black, woke celeb.

Now she gets to come home to the country she protested against.

I wouldn't have done this at all. She messed up (obviously not a fair sentence) but she shouldn't have been a top priority. That's my opinion. This trade of prisoners isn't even close and it's ridiculous how weak the Biden administration is. Why are we getting the short hand of the deal? This woman has literally bashed the country and we bend over backwards to get her home? No thanks. She can wait in line or do her time.

I'm confident that in a few years when he would hypothetically be released naturally you wouldn't say a word about it.
