Lol, I typically stay away from this cesspool. But figured Griner discussion would be here and not in the draft section it had been

Can you be more specific about my goal post shifting to fit my narrative. What was my original premise and then what did it turn into?

From my standpoint my original premise is that it's easier to get Griner because her charge was for something less severe(drug smuggling vs espionage).

So explain the radical thought and explain the goal post I moved

If you would have posited it in those terms in your middle paragraph, I wouldn’t have said anything. That’s fair

In what terms were I saying it before that made you call me a radical?

    Saying "weed charges"?

I do have a question, see if anyone here would know.
Is Griner allowed back in Russia?

I would hope she wouldn’t be dumb enough to go back to play with her team, but money can be tempting.

I sincerely can't see it. You lambasted me for multiple pages for me calling her charges "weed charges" and possession charges.

The worst part of this is the culture wars content this swap is going to generate for all the social media and YouTube grifters.

From what I have read, it was this or nothing. When people start talking like this is a "negotiation" between Biden and Putin I have to wonder if they realize how these deals work, its totally through back channels and if you dont like the deal you can say no............who in their right mind is going to say NO? Take what you can get and keep working on the others, was it a bad deal, yes, but for those of you comparing this to some type of basketball trade where there is a winner and loser, that's a bit simplistic IMO. Why anyone goes to Russia is beyond me, stay out of that place

"It was a choice to get Brittney or nothing," US official says

    From CNN's MJ Lee

A US official says Russians signaled more recently that they were only willing to negotiate for Brittney Griner and not Paul Whelan. That is because Russians have been handling their cases differently based on what each has been accused of.

The Biden administration repeatedly made offers to get Whelan as part of this deal – even after Russia made clear only Griner was acceptable.

In the end, when it was clear Russia was going to refuse on Whelan, the US had to accept it.

“It was a choice to get Brittney or nothing,” the US official said.

The official says it was a “difficult decision” for President Joe Biden but one he felt he had to make.

Remember: Whelan, a US, Irish, British and Canadian citizen, was detained at a Moscow hotel in December 2018 by Russian authorities who alleged he was involved in an intelligence operation. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison on espionage charges he has vehemently denied.

Whelan had been carrying out his sentence at a labor camp in Mordovia, an eight-hour drive from Moscow, where he told CNN in June 2021 he spent his days working in a clothing factory that he called a “sweatshop.”

The president spoke with Griner by phone Thursday morning with Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner, and Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken by his side.

I generally approve of biden political moves, this ain't one of them.

She broke the rules in russia, and only got bailed out bc of name recognition. They traded a weapon arms dealer for her, wtf.

folks praise biden now but watch the Republicans spin it like Biden is weak since he negotiate with communists to free a druggie during the 3l3ction cycle.

Bout was the No. 2 target for the United States, after Osama bin Laden.” In fact, the infamous arms dealer, widely known as the “merchant of death,” has even been accused of arming al-Qaida.

    For a basketball player.

He'll we didn't even save the dude stuck in russia accused of espionage

    Agree.

If Griner was a unique circumstance I could somewhat forgive this, but we have other US citizens rotting in Russian jails (prison camps?) right now for this exact same crime. Why the hell was Griner given special treatment over them?

Because you get what you can get?

If they tried through back channels(which is how these things are done) for all of them equally but Russia only allowed Griner, how is that the fault of the US or providing special treatment?

I'm sure Russia is happy with another culture wars dividing point for Americans to pop fling over but we don't have to buy into their bs. It's a human life and we get what we can get.
