He's always adding Brown into trade proposals, and then comes around regretting the fact Astros traded away Hader and Sandoval.
Daulton Varsho. A rather unique catcher/outfielder that emerged last season. I’d probably do that deal, but it’s close.
Those moves put the team $30+M over the CBT with only a couple contracts coming off the books in 2024. That would absolutely guarantee no money for anything else plus needing to reset the CBT when Altuve and Bregman are FA. Altuve will be older and may be able to be resigned cheap but Alex would be gone. The bullpen spending is through the roof. Certainly talented but also crazily expensive. Bullpen pitchers are so volatile this is a huge risk. In addition Nimmo needs to be in LF. The defense will suffer if he needs to play with Brantley next to him in left. He can stay in CF a season or two but it's not ideal. I hate losing Brown and have no trust in Kluber. He's fine as a 7th arm in a 6 man rotation but the more starters available to cover for him the better. I will say the offer is palatable though I don't know if Oakland would take Whitley or Meyers coming off of terrible seasons. Paredes and Joe Perez may be more like who they accept.
Murphy is being valued based on what Oakland would be willing to accept for him. They are saying " include Brown or stop wasting our time" And therefore every poster on this board who throws out a suggestion that does not include Brown is wasting his own and our time. Murphy is not a free agent. The Astros have to meet Oakland's price if they want him.
A's want a king's ransom for Murphy. https://www.stltoday.com/sports/big...cle_c348d59f-a37a-511f-9ea9-25654a25cc4e.html
"How about our 2nd and 3rd tier prospects with a decent MLB player for one of the leagues best catchers"? Fans never want to give away anything yet propose these stupid ass trades. You want a great player, be prepared to pay for it.
They are crazy with what they are asking according to that. The equivalent would be probably Jeremy Pena, Pedro León and Whitley for Murphy.
Murphy is not getting traded now, he'll stick with A's until he's a free agent or until they trade him later when he only has 1 year left. So let's not bother wasting time here looking at him.
I will bet you money that he lands somewhere besides the Astros. Thankfully. I have nothing against Vazquez and he feels like he would fit in well here. He is a perfectly solid older catcher who doesn't hurt the team but also doesn't help. If hecsigned with the Astros then most people here would be screaming for him to start like he is Johnny Bench. He had a worse OPS than Maldy as an Astro last year and his career OPS is 695. He is a JAG people !!! And wants to sign with a team that will make him the primary catcher.
Yes he is, he's in the discussion for best catcher in baseball, with 3 years of team control. These are the WAR leaders from catcher over the last 3 seasons. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.a...ers=0&startdate=2020-01-01&enddate=2022-12-31
No, I prefer to play it safer long term and we need the pitching depth. But it's fair of them to ask. If we had a top prospect who was further away and less important to our projected current team I would strongly consider it, but we don't. There's a huge dropoff in our prospect value after Brown.
