In my mini dream while sitting in traffic today, we just put a beacon in his butt and when Griner was home we blew his ass up. Literally.

    excerpt:

    REAGAN ACKNOWLEDGES ARMS-FOR-HOSTAGES SWAP
    By Lou Cannon
    March 5, 1987

President Reagan acknowledged last night in a nationally televised speech that he had traded U.S. arms for American hostages and said he accepted the "honest, convincing and highly critical" findings of the Tower special review board that investigated the Iran-contra affair.

"A few months ago I told the American people that I did not trade arms for hostages," Reagan said in a 13-minute speech from the Oval Office. "My heart and my best intentions still tell me that is true, but the facts and evidence tell me it is not."

This statement contradicted Reagan's previous statements about the Iran arms deals and came a week after the Tower report faulted both the initiative and Reagan's management of it.

While the president did not directly apologize for what he had done, as a number of his supporters and friends had urged him to do, he did say he took "full responsibility" for what had occurred. He also for the first time acknowledged that the initiative conflicted with his oft-declared policy of not bargaining with terrorists to win the freedom of hostages.

    Big thumbs down on this.

I would have rather we traded back for Marc Fogel.

This comment brought to you by the special kind of dipshit who spent a decade plus saying that every barely literate herder snatched from Aghanistan was the mother****ing WInter Soldier and then...mysteriously, yet mercifully, went quiet.

Am I glad that we got Griner back? Yes. Should we have gotten both back? Absolutely. As others have said, it’s akin to a terrible sports trade.

Reading up on Marc Fogel, tragic. One of those weird fascinations that Americans have with popular individuals, I guess it's just ingrained in our culture. Brittney was not even that popular, she just happened to have the NBA behind her. She's black, a lesbian, an athlete, with the NBA machine behind her that then had others interested.

I'm annoyed about it to be honest.

I'm not here to dismiss anything because I'm sure she did what she was charged with and I'm pretty sure everyone on the planet thinks that bringing a vape pen is a easier charge to negotiate with than being charged with espionage.

And absolutely I bring her race and her sexuality because that is a massive part of why many people are upset.

It's very subtle differences in standards you notice. Things like personal responsibility are things you won't here in regards to others that are imprisoned in Russia.

If you think the espionage charges are fabricated but believe the weed charges are real, that's a other subtle bias you are showing. I don't know you think one is fabricated and the other isn't.

A lot of it is basic lack of self-awareness and this many here offended that I call out race and sexuality.

During the Obama administration the same people b****ing about personal responsibility were calling Obama a traitor for not doing a trade or some type of negotiation immediately after a Marine was detained in Mexico for violating their firearm laws by bringing his personal firearms across the border. And I doubt you would label him a arms smuggler like you are labeling her a drug smuggler which is usually terms used for people who smuggle illegal goods for trade rather than smuggling a vape pen for personal use.

Do you see the words you use and how they are obviously charged with so much bias?

Lol, Russia is in win now mode and is going to have to start tanking again soon*

It was a great time for GM Brandon to pull off this move. Griner can still score and defend, Bout is washed.

*Bc Ukraine destroyed all their tanks

A couple of things to note before the reactionary right wingers frame the narrative.

    1. The arms dealer was going to be released within a decade anyways. He doesn't have the connections to just magically start up his trade. He's out of the game.

    2. Russia wanted a spy for a spy when it came to the Marine because that is what he has been accused of. People can believe it's a false accusation but I'd toy believe that is a false accusation than you should have had that same air of suspicion when Griner was charged.

And, from what I heard this morning when they reported this, we don't have a spy in captivity to trade so Russia said no.
