If she was charged with espionage she wouldn't have been in a position for a trade because to Russia that's way more severe than a vape pen.

I guess this is where I point out the conservative hypocrisy of "dealing with consequences". Maybe they shouldn't have done espionage related activities in a adversarial nation?

Thanks. It warms my heart to think that people like you think I'm pathetic. Probably doing something right.

I am hoping PW gets released also. For those of you who think this is a travesty, I wonder how you would feel if it was your family member? I am not going to play armchair QB in a field I have no clue on how things work, glad she is out, now let's work on getting others freed

People who travel to other countries need to abide by the laws of the other country. It does not matter that we think the laws are draconian. It’s not our damn country. It is your responsibility to know the laws and abide by them. Even if we assume the Russians targeted griner, it’s called individual responsibility. It was a crap situation, but one of her making. There is no suggestion that the stuff was planted, so yeah, bad news. Sorry but facts.

The US overpaid for her release.

The Whelan story is inconclusive and has zero to do with Griner. Intelligent people would recognize that. Nobody knows if he was falsely accused and convicted, if the USB drive was planted. If he was a spy, well his arrest in Russia is an occupational hazard. If he wasn’t a spy, his arrest and imprisonment would suck and is illegal, but there is no way of knowing. It it also a teeny tiny bit of an occupational hazard working in Russia, or any country with a corrupt government.

in the grand scheme of things, this matters very little other than press coverage. The Biden Administration has far more important things to do than spend the President’s time on this. Yes, assign a low/mid level administration rep to monitor and handle this. let’s move on.

Of course it does because nothing you ever do or say is intelligent. All you do is virtue signal. Did Griner get a ridiculous charge? Yes, but she's an idiot. Certainly not worth an arms dealer. Should have been last on the the list. All this was is a PR stunt. You lefties eat it up because you're too stupid to know better

There is a reason why you have neutral parties negotiating the deal. Of course if it was a family member there is an emotional investment. However, if family member is dumb enough to break laws abroad, in a country with questionable relationships with your home country, that's your dumb judgement.

I'm happy for her family and obviously believe Russia used her arrest as leverage, but doesn't sound like an equal trade at all.

Glad she's out. Don't care about whether we got fair value for the trade.

As much as I'd like to see Russia, it's yet another place I'd have to think very hard about before going. Americans who go there for work should also think hard about what their exposure is and what their exit plan is.

    Dude looks like my uncle.

Lol. Of course you would bring up race and sexuality.
    She smuggled drugs internationally, right?
Or because you’re ok with weed, Russia should be too?
Quick to believe a citizen is guilty of espionage because he’s a former Marine. But quick to dismiss international smuggling charges, because, well…..she’s a celebrity?

I thought Trump was supposed to be the Putin puppet and Biden the tough guy?

Instead Biden rewards Putin's behavior with an arms dealer.

Seriously is this even a "win" for the Biden administration? They were very hesitant because they knew from the beginning this was the cost but they paid that cost to the equivalent of 10 times over MSRP for a 2022 Prius ...Griner is released great but they released a monster into the world as a result that should NOT have been on the negotiation table -

Anyone else feel like we should have gotten at least 2 people out for the price of an arms dealer with American blood on his hands?

Points with who? Not with me

I'm looking at this as a Deandre Jordan for Micheal Jordan type trade.

They let a known arms dealer/murderer go free for a basketball player. Is that what this world is coming to and what value does Griner add to society vs letting a bad guy like this walk free? He will be back doing his best trying to kill people or supplying weapons to kill people around the world in short order. Is getting to watch Griner play basketball worth it? SMDH He's known as the merchant of death.

Did BOB negotiate this deal? This is a Hopkins for DJ/Blacklock trade.

Who are they going to trade to get Paul Whelan (SP?) out? Hopefully Biden can do a better deal than this trade.
