The Padres GM can really draft well… but someone needs to take the checkbook away from him. whatever, it isn’t my money… but they really haven’t done a good job building a balanced team or having young players fill in as depth. Not sure why they were so hell bent on a long term bat and didn’t go after Verlander, DeGrom and Rodon. Supposedly the owner has even more money to spend.
And the A's are not trading Murphy to the Astros unless Brown is in the deal. So why is still a topic?
Someone on Twitter jokingly said he thinks the Padres owner bought a ton of crypto really cheap around the time it was just starting, and sold it all right before the crash. LOL sounds about right.
Astros signings seem like bargains right now Good call from Crane and company for projecting insane spending this off-season.
Pitch-com likely renders much of that moot, plus, even if, say, Murphy isn't fluent, he can probably memorize certain "pitch terms" with ease (i.e. "cambio" = changup, "alto" = high, etc).
In one of my fantasies, we get Correa on the terms he was offered (6-$180) and move him to 3B. Move Bregman to 2B and move Altuve to DH. With all it's problems, it is the first part which is most difficult. I have no doubt Correa thinks he's worth $44M AAV for 12 years now.
Because in both cases you're relying on unproven talent that has less than a 50% chance of success. Your quality of prospects comment is irrelevant. You're comparing a backup job to be earned with a starting job to be virtually handed to him. Pena was considered elite for about one year. He was old for a rookie for a reason. I'm applying your logic to the catching situation. Let's see what the young guys can do. Pena hit .250 with about 25 homeruns. Lee could do about the same if he improves over the year which is possible. Not saying it's likely which is why he's the backup. It could very well be Diaz but Lee seems to have more upside defensively.
Old for a rookie. LOL! He was 24, lost the COVID year in development, behind Correa in the Depth Chart. But he was old for a rookie. LOL!
