For me its about timing. This is an ELITE team that could really be strengthened by an elite catcher. It’s time.
Im definitely open to it. We’ve poured so much into the catcher spot in our farm system that id hate to throw in the towel now…sunk cost fallacy perhaps. Ultimately, I think they demand Brown and that’s too far IMO. Won’t even do that swap straight up.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone thought Arizona was stupid for accepting Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, and whoever else for Paul Goldschmidt. And the "so-called experts" were indeed right, but the GM saw something in those 3 that led him to pulling the trigger, so I use it as an example. If Oakland hired James Click he'd probably convince them Meyers is a legit headliner considering he was willing to bet his position as a GM on him LOL (again, not happening but just throwing it out there to prove my point). It never hurts asking and engaging in discussions.
He is less proven, but is under control for TWICE as many years as Murphy. So I don't think he'd be cheaper.
I guess Correa is down too BOS, SF, CHC, MIN, BAL and add Swanson too those teams + ATL and LAD. I would not mind if Correa signed a 10yr deal with Boston too take them off the list of suitors in Jeremy Pena free agency.
I think @Nook mentioned they want Brown AND Garcia. Lol, not happening. Don’t see a match here unless they change their minds. I get that everyone is sick of what we’ve rolled out at catcher for a long time now, but it’s worked for us. Clearly something will change soon as the Maldy era is winding down. Honestly, I’d rather go into this season with Maldy/Lee + Diaz going through a catching boot camp. If you get to July and it’s not where it needs to be, make a deal.
So Tatis moves to OF I assume. Correa still out there looking for that pay day. But Mahhhh Goodness some of these almost to decade long contracts are just insane. It’s like these teams are so desperate to win they can’t think of 3 years down the road when they are stuck with these 40 year olds making crazy money.
Which is why there’s zero chance I’m doing it. Wouldn’t even do it straight up. Brown was an ELITE prospect in AAA, then came up to the majors only to throw 20 innings giving up 2 runs. I’m not trading him for anyone.
They keep doing it because they’re trapped in this thinking that they’re “just one player away”. This isn’t basketball where a single player dramatically changes the trajectory of your franchise. In baseball, it truly takes a team effort. So the Astros just keep going along…signing good vets to 3 year deals and offering 5-6 year extensions to their pre-arb/early-arb players, while the other GMs try to play catch-up with 10 year contracts.
Bill Simmons has talked so much **** about Correa. It will be fun so funny if he gets signed by the Red Sox. Hope he goes to the Giants or Cubs though.
