If they take Levis or Stroud, it will set the franchise back additional years. Be prepared. Nick seems like an over thinker so I am ready for anything. I don’t trust anything New England. They got a once in a generational player/coach pairing and people relate it to the Patriots process, organization like it can be recreated when it was all just two of the greatest to ever do it paired up.
If he is not in your top 3, then there is an evaluation problem. The ONLY issue with him is size. 75-12 TD/Int ratio 8035 yards in 32 games is insane.
I believe that Bryce Young is a hell of a prospect. I expect him to be a starting QB in the NFL pretty quickly. That is where I stop. I just cant, right now, say that he is going to be near all pro level. I think you have to feel that way about whoever you draft first overall. That guy should project to be one of the 2 or 3 best players at their respective position. I get that QB is the most important spot on the roster and Young undoubtedly makes the Texans better at that spot. But I don't think that he is a gamechanger in the way that Mahomes, Aaron Rogers, Tom Brady or Josh Allen are. Maybe I am wrong, but if I am choosing him first overall, I am forecasting perennial MVP candidate. I just dont feel that way about Young. Admittedly, I could be wrong. But that is my opinion.
There is not a single player in this draft that projects as a perennial MVP candidate. No one was projecting Mahomes as such either before the draft. In fact, most league MVPs were not projected as that, so not sure where these fantastical projection needs are coming from.
I can certainly understand this feeling and I think it's very reasonable to feel this way. I did like Caserio's 1st full draft though.
Young doesn't have the arm strength of Mahomes. Nobody does except for maybe Allen. Flutie had a stronger arm than Young and that's who you should be comparing Young too. Not Mahomes.
Maybe MVP was over the top. I would project the guy selected 1.1 to be near the top of any list of best at their position. QBs that reside in those spots are generally MVP candidates was where my head was. I think my position about Bryce goes this way: The Texans need a guy to change the makeup of the team. A guy that changes the culture of the franchise. I think that Will Anderson and Jalen Carter could be that type of player. I am not as sold on Bryce Young being anything more than a solid to good starting QB. Again, Im just a dude sitting at his keyboard on a Tuesday morning.
Agreed, but you should also look at history of QBs success that compare to success of QB's their size have had in the NFL.
I think its going to be Stroud. We can say all we want about running a pro system in college but there no real such thing. Both Young and Stroud have comparable numbers : Its going to come down to measurables and in the nfl, for better or worse a 6'3 220lb qb > a 5'11 195lb qb Spoiler
Flutie was never an NFL QB, until he went to Canada. Bryce Young is much better than Flutie at the same age. You start 32 games at Alabama, in the SEC, you are not some fly-by-night QB. Different Era, but Flutie's numbers a BC are average. He wont the Heisman because of ONE game. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/2023-nfl-draft-thread.317091/page-60#post-14396180
I definitely only consider Young with a top 10 pick. If I am calling the shots I go Will Anderson at 1.1 and then either Young at the Cleveland pick (unlikely) or trade back for additional draft picks and take Richardson. Id make a promise to Cameron Ward that we'd select him in the 3rd if that could induce him to declare.
Picking a QB because he is "prototypical size" is a recipe for disaster. Levis was AWFUL against good teams this year. CJ Stroud...as I watched him more this year...was a paint-by-numbers QB. Nothing WOWED about him. He is better than Levis, but I don't know about Stroud. I started watching QB's more after I first posted about QBs in September. Caleb Williams has ALOT of Mahomes in him, but I'm not willing to wait or take a chance the Texans will suck enough again to wait for him. Do **** around. If you think Young is it, then you take him.
Allen was a raw prospect like Levis and Allen is at worst the second best QB in the league. Tools are needed at QB as well, still more important to be able to read defenses and process (which scouts say he has in droves) Stroud has better numbers than Levis but Levi’s is a better prospect. And of course if the Texans think Young is the guy they’ll take him. But he’s not a consensus top 3 prospect in this draft.
