Nimmo will get overpaid. Teams are starving for a center fielder and splash.

I think you can find Korey Lee in trade in the future.

Let Maldy catch 90 games and promise him a lucrative move to the bench after this year.

Give Diaz the scraps and work with him.

It continues to be embarrassing to me, how when you check places like this one, but it is even more pronounced on the Astros Reddit page, how people don't understand, how much of a perfect fit Contreras is to our current situation, even if people continue to overrate Maldy to the moon like astros fans do because they cant step away from our team.

Even if you believe that Maldy is the best defensive/pitch manager the game has ever seen, it doesn't change the fact that at 36 year old that body has big time millage on it, and most likely cant be a full time starter after his contract is up. Meaning, Contreras can be a 2C/1DH for 1 full year, learn how to call games from the best ever, let Korey Lee develop at the AAA level, and next year, Contreras can be THE GUY with all the knowledge he got from the GOAT, and Lee would now be ready to be 2C, and Maldonado can transition naturally to the coaching staff, after winning another WS.

Its like the situation is perfect, even for the majority of the fans that believe Maldy is better/more important then he actually his to the pitching greatness that we have seen.

You go on the last Reddit thread about Contreras, and out of 100+ comments, there are like at most 5 pro Contreras signing....... it is unreal. I'm am not even talking about how underrated Contreras is in these analysis. People have this notion that this guy is absolute garbage behind the plate and can only swing it, which is false.

It will be funny if we sign him, and after next year when he becomes full time C, and he is good at calling games, people will give all the credit to Maldy........ people really cant like a player, because they are just likeable, and not overrate their ability.

JV just delivered one of the greatest pitching feats of all time. We move forward.

Its no where close for me. Vazquez is a mediocre bat at the bottom of the lineup, and hes not elite behind the dish either.

Those young pitchers just got a lot of pressure put on them, especially Brown with the JV 2.0 comparisons. Makes me kind of want to just keep it Vasquez(resign as #1) and Maldy(#2), and spend the money on OF/DH, long relief, and extend Tucker/Framber.

Not a great bat. Why would we over pay for this?

I swear to allah half the smooth brains on here would refuse to pay an in his prime Johnny Bench a wooden nickel and the other half would say Yogi Berra should haul around machetes catchers equipment if he’d come and catch for free in houston.

Jose Altuve is the greatest Astro ever. He has seen it all. Love it that JV came here and had such a good run, but now he’s gone, just like Cole, just like Springer, and just like Correa.

Jose Altuve is the one constant. He and McCullers are the remaining two players from the 2015 playoff team and the unquestioned leaders of this team, along with Breggy.

Of all the players that have been through these playoff runs, only Altuve, Bregman and McCullers will have their numbers retired.

Always good to have options. Helps you maintain leverage and get creative if necessary.

As an example, if we trade prospects to fix our catcher position, then that may give you space to go after both Nimmo and Rodon.
