Even 40% 3pt percentage is not good enough to alternate if you consider offensive rebounds, forcing rival interior players to foul. Asking Sengun to shoot 3 is a waste of resources. I don't think Rockets management get it, neither some of the fans. Less is more.
I am in a state not to discuss anything in this forum if not supported by facts&figures. I don't give a f... for your cheap opinions. If you support your opinion with the numbers/clips, then it is worth to think about,
I said it in the other thread but if Alpi can at least get a FT Line extended jumper like Scola - he would fit in so much better with everyone on the team...and he can pass or shoot from there. DD
YEP...BRAVO!! and whoevers ever played the game just knows, the defenders LOVE IT, JUST LOVE IT when offenses quickly chuck a 3 pointer, they hate to guard and work hard defending an elaborate postup guy, or guy dedicated to getting to the rim, dedicated to detail...its hard work and demoralizing....
jalen can also develop hookshots and postups and DEFENSE and especially a currylike off ball game..it would totally unlock him....and made him more fitting to play with others you could also read a book a day and play some ball, which would make you a better basketball analysts and person in general but you seem never willing to do it....
Lol. Sengun OF's out here arguing he shouldn't learn to shoot from range without realising that's the main factor in his developing from a decent starter projection to a top-tier talent is everything.
i would tend to agree but only if he has like 20 shots to fire a game and 35+ minutes playing time...otherwise its just a distraction , destroying his and others rhythm and giving ammuntion to haters and doubters... oh NO DOUBT, sengun doubters AND SILAS APOLOGISTS would have just LOVED it FOR SENGUN TO CHUCK SOME AND DESTROY HIS SUPERIOR PER, TS % AND OTHER METRICS....
I don't know how adding valuable skills is ever a bad thing. He WILL add to his range, and I am sure he will become a decent mid-range and 3-point shooter. There really isn't any reason why he shouldn't be able to get there.
This sequence is SO TYPICAL FOR WHAT'S GOING ON. And instead of punishing everyone else, the clueless coach punishes Sengun. It's downright insane.
Edit: quoted wrong post @Ankara1923 why? If he could fake a 3 legitimately, he would drive to the rim with ease as he did against jokic. That would be awesome. I wrote in the other thread. I think it is a waste of developmental year not to make him shoot. And I am mad at the coaches for that.
If the Warriors can win 4 rings with Draymond basically being blind from 3, I'm sure Al-P can manage. I'd rather him work on the stuff he's naturally good at instead of wasting his time upping his 3 pt %. Look at Jokic. He realized it doesn't really matter either.
If he were getting playtime in the mid 30 minute range like he did against the Thunder consistently it would help. Running the offense through him would be ideal but even if they play SIlas' style getting more PT only only increases the opportunities for him to work on those shots in the flow of a game. A little reassurance from the coach that he will not be yanked if he misses those types of shots would help to. They are letting Smith play through his growing pains. Why not Alpi? Even with the few growing pains he will have he is still a net positive to have on the floor right now and will only get better with PT.
I like Sengun a lot and excited about his future but some of you guys are taking the Sengun nuthugging to the extreme.
Jokic is a decent 3pt shooter and an elite midrange shooter. That's what separates him from Draymond Green on offense. Draymond is a good playmaker. But he can't carry an offense like Jokic does without the elite scorers around him. Sengun can be a good player without a shot. But he will never be a star without it.
Any player's improvement in 3pt shooting is plus but what about priorities and opportunity cost? If you want Alpi to become MVP level player (he will be multiple All-Star, no doubt) you have to help him more for close finishing, force him to re-gain assisting abilities, train him with Bari/Tari+guards for perimeter defence,... He worked with the Dream once and improved a lot. When he played with experienced Pgs (D. J. Augustine, D. Schroeder) he was doing very well. It means that the boy capable to learn quick. He will learn 3 pt shooting by time. His ability to shoot 3s to be around 30 to 33%. The current figure is lower because you feel the pressure on him everytime he tries to shoot or not. Make him stress-free. You can force JGreen to make more blocks. It will be wonderful if makes more but what cost? Tari and Sengun to be trained for close finishing, JGreen and KPJ for defence, Nix to be quick, Matthews not to brick. Why offensive rebounds king Alpi does not reb defensively at the same rate, why Alpi's assist rate declined and much lower than Jokic's, why Sengun whining for any call/not call? These are the issues to be solved/excelled before 3pt shooting. It seems that Rockets organisation and fanbase like to deal with minor issues rather than cardinal problems. The biggest problems in this team: perimeter defence, turnovers and coaching. The opps are shooting like watermelon collectors, quite freely, Rox giving away the ball as if Christmas time gift giving homeless charity, coaches watch from the best seats available and people discuss whether Bruno should start over Sengun or Alpi's 3pt shooting. Pure distractions.
Thing is that of the two, Draymond is a championship level player and Jokic is a regular season MVP level player. Al-P will not be winning MVPs but I still think that he's athletic enough to not be played off the floor in crucial moments. Al-P is a better athlete than Jokic is. This is the primary reason why Jabari was rated higher than Paolo throughout the draft process. Paolo might win MVPs. But players like Jabari win championships.
