Lmao, if you watch closely, the 'global types' are standing by and the real criticisms come from locals, but okay.
Robinson by himself has cost us 2 goals. None of which were great play by the Netherlands. Just completely unmarked
Nah, playoff baseball is another level. Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. The stadium was shaking. I’ve been to several sporting events. Nothing has came close.
"Global types". You mean people that watch real football every year and not just every four? Germany won a WC this century. I think they get a pass. And for the record, I'm Mexican and have been watching the shambolic Mexican national team most of my life. I know what **** football looks like.
Now isn't the time to b all butt hurt about folks sht talking about how bad we are at futbol. A first world country that struggling this bad is just a sore sight to see. US got lucky we were slotted in a weaka$$ group. Aside from England, folks were doubtful we could even beat wales and Iran of all things. On paper the ranking were close for our group, but if u watch the quality of games, u could see how much harder the other groups were. We scored 3 goals in 4 games, which is quite pathetic. I hope by the next world cup we don't get embarrassed as the host nations. We didn't even beat anybody that's considered a powerhouse, we tied England (which we count as a win), tied wales and beat Iran. pffft.
Im criticizing as much as anyone but the tired old takes like that drive me nuts. “uSa PlAyInG sOcCeR rOfL” just gtfo
Yeah that's 2017, the one time. This year fans were complaining minute maid park crowds were quiet. Also where was the fireworks when they won?
Have u been to a World Cup Event? Imagine if u went to the recent ones. Korea v Portugal, Japan v Spain, Saudi Arabia v Argentina, hell Uruguay v Ghana. The hype level is insane, 2017 World series game five is just two cities, this is nations cheering for their team, no fking way it can b close.
And don't forget soccer already won as the greatest sport because of this banger. Nothing will touch this for a long time.
The Dutch were just far and away the better team. A lot of fight by the US but they needed some craziness to win
It's a culture thing here. Football is played like Euro Basketball is played and the USA, as a country, just isn't good at that. It's main sports are more about the prowess of individuals and not beautiful coordinated team play. Maybe the mid 2000s Pistons or early 2000s Kings come close. Hoping that Beckham's involvement and the eventual growth of the MLS/player development gets there. My brother was a promising goalie in High School and the avenues to get him onto a college team were *hard*. We talked to Michigan and Wisconsin but in the end, the resources just aren't there. They basically told us that. They get such few scholarships and the college teams themselves are so limited. I'm not even sure there's a men's soccer team in the state of Texas at any of the big schools.
