The Athletic: Bruno Fernando Will Start Over Sengun When He Returns

I like Sengun and his potential with time, but Bruno might be the most impactful big in our lineup with his time if you focus on the need for defense at center. His BPM and even PER are just as good or better than Sengun. Play the hot hand, including Garuba at center, Sengun should overtake them with time but let the best player win.

 

The problem is Bruno isn’t a better defender.

 

That’s true for sure. I just have a certain type of center that I prefer, that’s all. If he helps us win games in the future, I’m good with it

Williams has been an absolute bust so far.
If we’re going to go that type of player at least get the better player in Kessler

 

I respectfully disagree, he's a more skilled offensive player, but Bruno is effective at what he does. These are their Defensive BPM, and not only this but watching the games/film.

Sometimes teams will start doing layup drills on Sengun, other times he has good block games. He's improving, but at this stage, he definitely has weaker defensive games at a critical team defensive position.

You never give him the credit when he deserves. That's the problem with you like a few others.

 

It's not about what he is now, we are still set to lose.....it's about what he has to offer
later. Duren is averaging something like 6 points. It takes big men longer to develop.

Sengun has been a pro since before the NBA. I want that rim protection
more than offense. Plus the real gem in the trade is PJ Washington.

Both Mark Williams and Washington fit the Silas scheme better than Sengun.

 

BPM isn’t a good stat to judge defense. It’s dependent on a lot of outside factors.
Alp has better defensive rating and DWS, but again no stat is perfect.

The eye test says Bruno isn’t a good defender, he’s a better post defender than Alp one on one. That I will give him
