[Poll] What is your current opinion on Alperen Sengun's ceiling?

-Alpi is the best player of Rockets
-Alpi will be the best player in a contender
-Alpi has become MVP in every league he has ever played, NBA is the next one

Seems like people have a different definition of ceiling than I do. To me his ceiling is best player on a contender but that's also a pretty unlikely outcome. That's how I define ceiling personally, the best possible outcome that is not very likely. I think "integral starter on a contender" is the most likely outcome on the list.

Also some of these options mean the same thing, like, "best player on a decent team" is also "integral starter on a contender." Similarly "role player on a contender" is the same thing as "integral player on decent team."

 

I don’t think we have a best player on a contending team type player on this roster. I see 2s, 3s, and 4s. Wemby will be our Batman

That particular clip @Clutch posted was when the game was out of reach, he was in foul trouble and exhausted (and I believe had just had a hard fall). He isn't the greatest defender, but he usually tries hard on defense. We get killed more from the perimeter.

I expect more Assts and Rebounds . . . maybe less points

I think Sengun CAN BE a better passer and rebounder
Unsure if his shot will be as good or better but He is better around the basket.

Center remains the most important defensive position on the court, and we simply will never be contenders rolling Sengun out there playing significant minutes against good teams. The effort is there most of the time, but the physical tools are just lacking, which leads to fouling, which leads to even weaker defense. These past few games, we were well on our way to giving up 140-150 points before the other teams took their feet off the gas. Now, I know the wings aren't helping either at this point, but its basically a layup line. The defensive four factors, deterrence (eFG%), forcing turnovers (TOV%), defensive rebounding and not fouling...unfortunately are all major weaknesses for Sengun.

Even the Nuggets, who have a rich man's Sengun, have never managed to put a top ten defense on the floor with Jokic at center. You can head over basketball reference and sort by team defensive rating year over year, and its pretty easy to see. The general trend at Center for the top ten defensive teams are tall lengthy centers who are either great at rim deterrence or great defensive rebounders.

Seems like it is going to take a lot of time for people to figure this out, but maximizing Sengun's strengths, and minimizing his weaknesses, is likely 25-30 minutes off the bench, where 1.) He isn't competing with Jalen and whomever the PG is on this team for shot attempts, 2.) There is less pressure on him defensively from opposing teams and 3.) The goons, who all have great length / recovery can help cover for him. And that is not a demotion, an insult or whatever nonsense the Seguknights want to spout off. That is a good, valuable, significant contributor to the team.

That is the objective reality, but I'm probaby just a "hater", so meh.

 

I agree! Most won’t understand this bc of biased opinions. I do think Sengun has more defensive potential than Jokic, but I don’t think it’ll be enough. We’re gonna have to win shootouts with him at the 5, especially with our already awful perimeter defense. We’re always gonna have to help and cover for him. He needs Wemby soooo bad, but drafting him may push Sengun to the bench.

 

Here’s an idea..

según loses 10-15 lbs and get some muscle
And becomes the starting PF.

Once the Rockets team defense becomes better, Sengun's IQ will take over. Yall think Sengun is a worse defender than he is because everyone else is so awful. Sengun is not going to make up for bad defense.

Sengun is probably a PF instead of a center. Dropping a few to get a bit quicker would help in that regard. If he doesn’t figure out the shooting, he’ll be capped at Scola with some playmaking.

 

24% from 3 so far in his career . That has to improve. Westbrick is a better shooter at this point.

Many don't take this into account. I've thought this too, not that I do not like Sengun, I just don't think you can win a Championship with him as the center.
