lists of high mileage cars by year:

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2010/

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2009/

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2008/

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2007/

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2006/

    https://www.mpgomatic.com/best-gas-mileage-cars-2005/

pretty sure the claim that was made was: "While I agree with the sentiment not everybody can afford a car that gets 30 miles to the gallon, that was almost unheard having a car that did that just 5 years ago."

my 99 accord averaged 28-30mpg on my normal commutes
my 2015 accord averages slightly better.
id say most 4cyl sedans of any size could get 30mpg with good driving habits. problem is everyone wants a SUV thingy.

But who actually has good driving habits, anyway I am not saying these cars were not available they were just not that easy to get.

And yes the real problem is most people don't want a 99 accord or 2015 for that matter.

I am going to stop derailing this thread, but I will admit it might have been easier to get a car that could do that than I thought.

LOL did you actually look at the cars on that list.

Do you see a lot of Hybrids and Diesels on the highways?

Yes, gas prices have been trending downward for a long time, but had stabilized at about $2.80 here for a while until the last few days when they dropped quickly to about $2.62. Even the WaPo article someone posted above mentioned the Demand in China as being a big contributor to this recent price drop. But here's CNN on the matter"

Financially, we don't want it to drop too low like it did during the Trump administration. We want it to stay about where it is right now for the health of the economy. (except for diesel..that needs to drop a bit still).

What I came to say. Starting to get uncomfortable with how low the gas price is getting. Biden doing too good a job, lol. Cheap energy is great, but Houston's economy is built on oil and refining. I want to keep those guys just fat enough that they keep spending money around town.

yeh, people seem to forget about the record number of Oil & gas company bankruptcies and the loss of 200,000+ jobs in the industry that accompanied those low gas prices.

Why are Gas prices still dropping?

its 2,70 in my little town and probably about 2.50 in Houston.

That's crazy, it just shows you how prices can be manipulated.
