Not sure what you deem a "good amount". Abreu will play 1B about 135 times, give or take 5. He'll DH another 20-25 times because his bat is too valuable. Alvarez will DH at least 100 times. So that leaves about 30-35 games for Yuli and that's only if we exclusively only use him when Alvarez or Abreu doesn't DH. So more likely 20-25 games tops. Not sure he's looking forward to having only 100 ABs next season.
Plus it wouldn't be a good use of a roster spot I Love Yuli But unless he just doesn't sign with someone and we sign him late to fill an injury, it's pretty likely he is done here
Yordan is playing LF a lot more next year so DH'ing that many times probably isn't happening. We already know that's the plan for him in LF. I don't think Abreu needs to start at 1B strictly that many times with Yuli behind him. He can DH more to to mitigate his starts at 1B. So yeah there's plenty of opportunity for Yuli to play a significant role on this team still
he is. like i mentioned before it changes if he feels he's still an everyday play but at this point for the stros he isn't. If he is on the same page, it shouldn't take much to retain him. Especially in this clubhouse where he is loved and vice versa
Funny we yelled at Dusty all year long for playing Yuli way too much and now we are advocating for him to take ABs away from much better hitters to the tune of 200-250 ABs. Here we go again? He can be the Dubon of 2022.
A willingness to extend to a third year seemed to be the difference maker. It gives us yet another player to sign beyond the Altuve and Bregman contracts. That seems to be the same holdup signing a 40 year old with 2 Cy Youngs in the last 4 years.
You have to assume that job will be waiting for him in some form. He will still want to play. Probably with his brother or here. I think he will ultimately land here though. Doesn't make since to uproot this late in the career and Houston is big on the clubhouse aspect.
