Haliburton by himself makes the team better, he is outting up 20 and 10 on hyper efficient offense which is what you expect a franchise player to do. The team around him is bad and the Pacers purposely made the team bad so they can tank and get a draft pick. Get on everybody's level smh
You're the one who is narrow sighted when you talk about wins and losses for a tanking team. Kings are evaluated on wins and losses cuz thsts why they paid super max to Fox and brought in Sabonis, they wanna win. Pacers arent evaluated on wins and losses cuz they wanna tank, thats why they blew up their team and traded away both Levert and Sabonis. It's not that hard to understand why cant you get it? How many people are saying Cade sucks cuz the Pistons have the worst record in the L? 2 right? You and @jiggyfly
Both teams have almost identical records. Both teams are 2-4 after the trade. So we can safely say that neither team got better--so far. It is at best a lateral move--for now. BUT, here is why the Kings are dumb if this is a lateral move: Sabonis is in his prime while Haliburton is still growing. Of course, there is a chance that Halliburton has peaked (Simmons?) and that's it. But it looks very unlikely. So in a year or so, the Kings will regret trading away the young guy.
Again, this post misses a large point -- Fox has been tearing it up since the trade. That wouldn't have happened with Haliburton. It's way easier to build around a Sabonis-Fox core than a Fox-Haliburton core.
If he has been tearing it up why do they have a losing record? Fox is making super max, Sabonis also wants a max extension. Kings are paying that much more money for the same result. The correct move is trade away Fox and build around Haliburton which is whst the Pacers have done.
How do you know it wouldn't have happened with Haliburton. It's not like Fox never had this kind of "tearing it up" stretches with Haliburton. We'll see how sustainable this is. By the same logic, one can also argue that Haliburton has been tearing it up at Indiana without Fox. If they wanted a guard-big combo to build on, they should have traded Fox rather than Haliburton. Fox is on a max contract. Haliburton is on a rookie contract.
The Kings are closer to the Play In than the Pacers, they only need to figure out Defense and that is not easy. I agree the trade shouldn't have happened, should have moved Sabonis elsewhere. Fox is still 24, it is not the end of the world.
Fox is not making the super max, you can't help but stretch the truth. He is on the regular max exstension from his rookie contract and he is putting up better numbers than the guy you call a franchise player.
I agree. That said, Sac still does have their pick. With a little luck, they could run out Fox/Sabonis/Chet, or something along those lines next year.
Sabonis/Kings: 4-7 | 32.7 minutes | 56.8 FG% | 16.7 3PT% | 65.7 FT% | 17.4 points, 12.8 rebounds 5.9 assists Hali/Pacers: 3-8 | 38 minutes | 51.0 FG% | 41.9 3PT% | 81.0 FT% | 19.2 points, 9.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
On the one side, the Kings have had a tougher schedule since the trade: Minnesota L Washington W Brooklyn L Chicago L Denver L Denver L OKC W New Orleans L San Antonio W Dallas L New York L While Indiana has played some bad teams, notably playing the combination of Washington/OKC/Orlando/Detroit a total of 6 times but going 2-4 in those games Cleveland L Minnesota L Milwaukee L Washington W Oklahoma City L Boston W Orlando L Orlando W Detroit L Washington L Cleveland L On the OTHER side, Indiana hasn't had Turner manning the paint on defense and it's been pretty much Halliburton, a Brogdon coming back from achilles injury, and a ragtag bunch of rookies and role players. Sacramento has both Fox and Sabonis as well as a rejuvenated Harrison Barnes.
Will the Kings ever be good? credit to whatever’s left of their fanbase for surviving a drought like this they haven’t even been a .500 team or better since 2006
