Speaking of Tumblr, there's talk they'll implement the protocol behind Mastodon. I don't know what that will ultimately mean (I guess Mastodon instances can interact with Tumblr and vice versa), but that's another interesting aspect of the Mastodon approach. I never really got into Tumblr for some reason, but it seems alright for what it is.
Didn't you start posting as like a 14-year old? Haven't seen you post much in recent years, good to see you back. Crazy how time flies.
Probably staying home for the holid-- what's that? Twitter? My practice of avoiding non-cf.net social media will probably not be impacted.
Think I was ~15 when I registered, but yeah something like that. Time does fly. I never really left, and I still post sporadically, though typically only in the Hangout and only in video game/tech/science related threads. Decided to be more of a lurker, especially in the GARM. We don't need another voice complaining about Silas, Sengun, KPJ, Jabari, etc. But I'll gladly add to the pile of comments complaining about Elon's handling of Twitter.
Yeah 1000% prefer Instagram and TikTok when it comes to everything that isn't a breaking news event -- Twitter can do video and photos, but Instagram and TikTok do it better although Instagram's recommendation algorithm is horrible especially with their recent push to getting everyone to use Reels (Yo. But Twitter does do news that does not need to be accompanied by any sort of media pretty well.
https://social.network.europa.eu/about EU Voice provides EU institutions, bodies and agencies with privacy-friendly microblogging accounts that they typically use for the purposes of press and public relations activities. Institutional accounts can be requested from tech-privacy@edps.europa.eu. The Mastodon developers maintain a list of Mastodon communities open for registration. EU Voice is the official ActivityPub microblogging platform of the EU institutions, bodies and agencies (EUIs). Together with EU Video, it is part of an alternative social media pilot program proposed, and provided by the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS). ************************************************** Has there been any Buzz of the US doing something similar with only authorized people from various agencies (local, state, federal) able to post and the general public is in Read Only mode?
The main reason Facebook exists is that its like the number 1 way for small businesses to get their best bang for the buck on marketing dollars.
I'm not sure if this idea will take off, but I do like it in theory. In practice, there might be problems that prevent this from being any good (including some tech issues with how ActivityPub/Mastodon work vs how it should/could work), but companies/organizations/governments being able to spin up their own "social media" instance that doesn't require verification badges seems kinda neat (especially if it can be well-incorporated with their general website/app while also playing well with other ActivityPub/Mastodon instances). Haven't put a ton of thought into it, but that kinda feels to me how social media *should* be vs what we currently have.
"tank culture is pathetic, growth now<lottery balls" I've been meaning to ask you -- wth does that mean? Sounds like you're contradicting yourself. lol.
I’m saying growth is now worse than lottery balls according to tank dreamers…didn’t have enough characters to say it like that tho lol
