I’m very exiting about getting Abreu. He was my first choice.

White Sox fans are absolutely devastated.

I expect Abreu to hit 2 dongs against the White Sox in the season opener

Abreu was the 4th best projected hitter available in free agency (behind Judge, Nimmo, and Correa).

Nimmo, Brantley, Conforto, Benintendi, Gallo, Profar, and Bellinger are the lefty OF bats that make the most sense for Houston’s next move. Adam Frazier and Robbie Grossman are lesser dark horse options. Mullins, Reynolds, Varsho, Yaz, Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas, Happ, Santander, Cavan Biggio, Jake McCarthy, Josh Lowe, Vidal Brujan, Austin Meadows, Max Kepler, Trevor Larnach, Gavin Sheets, and Jake Fraley represent potentially available lefty OF trade options.

Only concern is his age at 36 next year. Do we see a fall off in production from Abreu.

if we can bring back yuli as utility, that would be huge

One thing about potentially bringing back Gurriel in a bench role is that it means one of Hensley, Dubon, or Meyers would not have a spot on the roster. That’s not the end of the world because Meyers and Hensley both can be optioned and Dubon can back up both SS and CF.

Aledmys Diaz only played 18 games at SS last year. So pencilling in Yuli for Diaz’s role minus most of those SS innings still likely gets him 300+ pa.

I don't think it means that necessarily. They should still have 30+ mill a year to spend . I heard 40 mill approx in another thread.

Nah. I don't think Abreu impacted a Verlander signing one bit. It may prevent us from resigning Brantley though unless he takes a discount.

Diaz played a lot in the outfield though - does Yuli have any experience with that? I know he's played all the infield positions at various times.

Kiss Verlander goodbye. He is shopping for money. They just gave 20 million to Abreu with only 35 million to spend. Have a feeling that Crane will probably go after a low end starter and save some money for Yuli and Brantley.

One thing this team doesn't need is Justin Verlander.

They needed that big bat at 1B.
