Couldn't you have picked a better female as a representative of 1992? Kate Moss is ugh

I say we turn communist and have each human have the exact meal needed for their caloric intake.

If we are talking about health here it’s likely that Marky Mark was severely dehydrated and fasted for days leading up to the shoot. So let’s not get out of hand worshiping 90’s model culture. Also I saw a documentary the other day about 90’s era models where a group of them decided it would be a good idea to spray each other with gasoline. That sort of carelessness and disregard for climate change is downright sickening.

In the old age when food was scarce, fat (but not obese) was a symbol of health. It was even a symbol of beauty.

Today, with plenty of food and modern knowledge of medicine, society understands the health benefits of being “fit” (although 40% of heart diseases are among “fit” folks). These ads aren’t going to make people suddenly think being fat is healthy. Maybe it does move the beauty needle a bit. What it does though is an attempt to sell more brand name clothes.

What's the issue? Weight? Weight/body/figure can be cyclical in history/culture. Also I imagine Calvin Klein is just appealing to more of an audience, they didn't REPLACE Marky Mark & Moss (that's, Moss right?) - they expanded the advertising to ALSO include other people. Which means maybe you're pointing to the growth of capitalism as the fall of society.

It can be argued that ads that exclusively use extremely low-fat body shapes for young people is also harmful and the cause of many eating disorders -- particularly for young women. Ad campaigns that make use of a variety of body types that exist in real life -- including underweight and overweight -- is not a signal of the degeneration of Western Civilization (lol). If we only saw ads with people that have high body-fat% (just like 30 years ago we only saw ads with people that have very low body-fat%), then I would be more concerned.

Good point. Instagram is a good example of that harm.

I prefer seeing attractive people in ads. To each his/her/zem's own.

Maybe what's sexually attractive to men is no longer of primary concern for them and their business. They are marketing their stuff to women of all shapes and sizes.

I would agree that the growth of capitalism, at least in it's current state, is the absolute downfall of our society.

When you post threads like this, you understand why your ideology is labels "reactionary" right?

Yes I suppose that’s why there all those fat people playing World Cup games now.

there are a lot more things that will lead tot he fall of Western civilization than fat Calvin Klein models.

    LOL, you look at ads.

Modern Western Civilization has survived your Kaiser, Fuhrer, 13 year reich, Wall, Stasi, mediocre techno, bad dominatrix outfits, Volkswagon shennanigans, Octoberfest starting in late September, lack of humor, etc....

Pretty we can survive Calvin Klein.
