Looks like he was a polarizing figure within his companies as well.

I seem to remember with Enron a lot of ordinary people lost their life savings and were left financially ruined. Has there been reporting of similar fallout with this FTX thing?

in a legal sense, if they were coordinating with government officials to censor accounts

in a broader sense, the company did not believe in free speech prior to Elon taking over. They had a massive Orwellian Trust and Safety Division dedicated to manipulating content

Even if he "gave" 100M to democrats, it still dwarfs the Billions he stole and defrauded from his clients. Nobody likes a theif, and if you're cynical enough to believe otherwise, then those evil Dems would be cunning enough to fake outrage,

People still don't know much about what happened or crypto in general. Some folks tried commenting here only to be shut down because they didn't follow twitter.

Works both ways here. The fallout and resolution is still on going. Madoff was the end (a disappointing end with no other real convictions). This is more a beginning of the end,

Ordinary people tricked into FTX will definitely be affected. Lawsuits are spinning up against celebrities and influencers. The fallout is still developing.

I mean when Luna collapsed with Voyager, Celsius, and other quasi-crypto banks screwing over retail, there wasn't political fingerpointing nor "outrage" comparisons while retail ate the losses from fraud.

Crypto folks mostly circled their wagons, pretended the industry would be stronger...without regulation or government interference. The difference now is that crypto can crash further so more vested folks want the government to step in somehow and make them more whole (after crazy gains from 2020-2021).

Regardless of motivation, I see this more as finding someone to blame rather than inwardly looking at the morally broken nature of the industry itself.

There are folks who bought the highs or maybe doge after Elon went on SNL. For the most part, the victims bought earlier or are scattered around the world. Much harder to paint a picture of granny losing her savings after a kid told her to buy crypto during Thanksgiving.

Apparently there is disagreement on how to measure rise/fall in hate speech on Twitter. Some are predicting the “amnesty” plan will result in a spike in hate speech. But the people (or whoever decided to participate in Musk’s poll) have spoken.

Musk's Twitter "amnesty" plan for suspended accounts alarms activists

Elon Musk announced Thursday a "general amnesty" for suspended Twitter accounts from next week, "provided that they have not broken the law" or engaged in "egregious spam."

Why it matters: Online monitoring groups have reported a rise in racism, anti-Semitism and other hate speech on Twitter since free speech advocate Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of the social media company last month, though the billionaire said Thursday it has declined.

I personally don't have a problem with giving people a second chance and his terms are reasonable.
The stuff these 'groups' are whinging about have been happening on the internet since the beginning of the internet and will never stop.

I’m fine with amnesty. But they should suspend or nerf accounts that continually engage in hate speech or harassment.

If there’s a sharp increase in visibility of hate speech or harassment, he’s doing his users a huge disservice.

Agreed. Harassment and griefing should be heavily moderated.

These days hate speech is subjective and nearly all cases of real hate speech comes in the form of harassment. Harassment is not a form of speech. It's just being a dick.

I mean, Clutch lets Fatty back in after a while, so why not also have a Twitter amnesty.

Musk is doing what he wanted to do but hiding behind "let the poll decides". Taking action without wanting to face the consequences for it. And some people actually think the Twitter polls are real polls, lol.

If someone is doing it for the sole purpose of irritating someone, then sure. Before someone can 'report' someone for harassment, they should be required to block the person. And if they unblock them, the 'report' would be deleted.

    Self-moderation is still moderation.

I think people should in general be given a chance if they ask for it and show a willingness to change and abide by the updated "reasonable" terms.

But I'm not sure what the terms are if any. So far, it seems to be - let the "poll" decide. And if that's it, no one knows what's reasonable and what crosses the lines.

Musk puts out polls when he figures the people who participate (skewed towards his followers) will choose the option he desires.

Twitter is his kingdom and he’s the benevolent monarch who gives the people a voice on his terms.

I believe he said something along the lines of 'argeiugeous spammers and people breaking laws'.
