If within reason, bring back JV for 3 years. Re-sign Vazquez 3 years 27 mil Bring back Yuli. Trade for a CF Happ seems like a good fit and the Cards have a lot of high end young OF'ers and need SP. Give Diaz/Taylor Jones Leon etc... a chance. I'm really high on what I've read about Dirden and wouldn't be surprised to see him on Crawford by the all star break.
Just nasty. Do we deserve this dude. ima go ahead with yea. Fun to see your pitcher make someone else look silly.
And yet, you are not willing to set the terms of a bet and continue to call me an idiot for reasons. I’ve been a season ticket holder for a lot of years, but I’m apparently an ingrate as well. whatever.
Again, it wouldn’t be for a catcher. It would be for an above average bat that would catch 50 or 60 times a year and get the majority of his AB’s at DH and 1B beyond catcher. And as to the nonsense about that’s not what the astros do 1) he was the top target at the trade deadline that didn’t get done; and 2) he’s near the top of the FA wishlist per @Nook, so, yeah.
This is a very strange take. Maybe 1:1 they're not worth proven young talent but top 10 prospects are pretty only traded for proven all-star talent. Moreso as a base piece in a deal. Depending on your needs and development team, it wouldn't crazy to trade a talented young SS for a talented C prospect + some pieces.
Taylor Jones was waived and claimed by SF in August. I agree that Y.Diaz, Leon, Dirden, etc need opportunities but those will come even if 2 big bats get signed/traded for. 9 position players had 1+ PA for the Astros last season and are no longer on the roster and they had a total of 1763 PA. If 2 bats get signed and each get 600 PA that leaves 563 random PA. Plus Dubon, Meyers, Matijevic, Hensley, K.Lee, Y.Diaz, and Perez got 517 PA So if the returning 7 starters get about same PA + 2 new starters get 600 each then There is 1080 PA left for the bench that can be used for the guys you mentioned.
My opinion: Hensley has earned a spot based on 2022 performance. Lee struggled in his first attempt. I’m ok with giving him a chance in Spring Training to win a spot, but I think relying on two unknowns in Lee and Yainer for a position that is going to get heavy usage may not be in our best interest. Getting Contreras to split C, DH, 1B would be ideal. Meyers—I think he needs more time to demonstrate the shoulder is healthy and his bat is ready. Yainer—same thing as Lee, although he hasn’t had the MLB time to show his ability to hit MLB pitching. I’d like to see him compete for a spot in Spring Training. Matijevic—I think he’s more of a AAAA player and would prefer him as AAA depth. S Martinez—unless we want to spend for a LHRP, I think he’s earned the spot based on 2022. Maton—self-control issues aside, he will be on the team again unless he struggles in Spring Training. Dubon—out of options and will be on the team for 2022.
CF Pedro Leon C Korey Lee 1B Yanier Diaz SP Hunter Brown - Sky is the Limit Forrest Whitley looked great after Tommy John, Need a Solid First Half and then Call Up Josh James Great Arm, Needs Health, Reliever maybe Hoping for a Big Jump in Production in these players.
I beat you to it. LOL! But there is something to be said for waiting while other teams put themselves in a financial bind while we give prospects a chance to show they are ready to excel. We would then be in a more competitive position for trading for 2023 FAs or trades with teams on the cusp of a tear-down and rebuild. It's not as much fun as grabbing the headlines though. But I like a few 2023 FAs, even if just for the playoffs.
he was a completed trade that got nixed by the owner and Dusty, because thats not what the Astros do.
