Javier has already proven he can be an elite pitcher The issue with him is endurance. He can be counted on for 5 dominant innings 80+% of the time but 6 is 50/50 at best.
Too bad, I thought that guy was a bright up and coming brilliant mind. I was hoping he would become the next GM when Click was hired. Although I understand Crane had to hire people like Click, Dusty that the media likes. After winning the WS it appears that Crane's going back to the Luhnow model and that's a really good thing. Just gotta find a ruthless risk taker that's an analytical guy. Sig would be my guy and if Crane wants to wait a yr for Stearns I'm ok with that.
I think Sig would be great. I think he said something like preferring to build than maintain when he left the Astros for the Orioles which may prevent him from returning. Stearns, of course, would be great. I am still intrigued by Hinch. But in reality I like the idea of this organization continuing to be on the cutting edge and finding someone new with ideas to continue to evolve into a baseball dynasty like none seen before. They need the next Luhnow, not one of the old lieutenants. They need Professor X lol
Interesting enough tomorrow I will be going out to eat with Sig and his wife. Anything I should ask him?
Ask him who he thinks Crane will hire as the next GM and if he's gotten a call from Crane gaging his interest in the Stros GM job. Also thank him for helping build this dynasty.
Yes. Which prospects in Houston’s system would he ask for in trade? Has he been contacted regarding the Astros GM job? If he were GM what would be his plan for the Astros roster this offseason?
Looking at potential minor league deals, here’s a list of position players I wouldn’t mind Houston signing and stashing in AAA in case of emergency: C Robinson Chirinos C Luis Torrens IF Matt Duffy IF Jonathan Villar IF Marwin Gonzalez IF Niko Goodrum IF Chris Owings OF Franmil Reyes OF Adam Duvall
You just want to make my head explode with all this Goodrum stuff. Has Villar gotten washed enough that Non roster invite is the best he can do?
Wouldn’t surprise me if both Verlander and Correa ended up on the Dodgers. Also wouldn’t surprise me if Judge and Turner ended up with the Giants. Yankees/Mets might end up with some slim pickings and overpaying Nimmo, DeGrom, and/or Rodon.
Altuve Pena Alvarez Abreu Bregman Tucker Contreras Conforto McCormick Good luck stopping that line up more than once through the order.
[Seinfeld voice]What's the deal with signing offensively inept backup infielders from Detroit?[/Seinfeld voice]
The right to sit behind Sandy Koufax on the bus to the WS? 5-4 with a .095 era and averaged over 8 innings in his 7 starts. Madison Bumgarner is pretty good too..... 8-3 with a 2.11 era in over 100 innings in the post season including 4-0 with a .025 era in the WS Bob Gibson went 7-2 with a 1.89 era in the playoffs and won two WS MVP's.... more impressive, Gibson started 9 games in the playoffs and he had 9 complete games.
Doesn’t strike out much, decent middle infield defender. Solid AAA stash considering how weak Houston’s upper farm depth is at 2B/SS. Sucks that all 3 of Kessinger/Whitcomb/Nova have failed to break thru so far.
