Good post, thanks. Usman and his brother Sediq are both good players and the duo will have successful NBA careers. Anyone watching Euro games would predicted. Deep interest on Garuba is little bit related to Sengun dislike. Same thing happened for Bruno. Fernando is not as good as Garuba but he got lots of praise for replacing Alperen.Hope he becomes as good as Sengun/Garuba but it is a long shot.During summmer we did not know where will be next stop for Bruno after Hawks/celtics/Rockets. A two way contract followed by 4 year contract and starting slot. Not very bad for a journeyman.Good luck to him. Lars guy just don't like Sengun as we dislike him. This is life. As Rumi said:: " if you want to be friend to everyone, you will be friend to no one". That Ayn Rand (who I don't like) also expressed something similar but more selfish way. When you try to inform something such as Mobley and Capela having a very bad game but they are confident that no one will attack them because of one or two bad game, he answers such as "but Sengun's hairdresser is not good, Gobert is taller than Sengun, Nurkic is better defender,,,". It is very difficult to understand the mindset. Very toxic, very irrelevant. Sengun having sub par games after that bad fall. I was surprised to see him on the floor next game. He is also less team player nowadays, becoming similar to selfish NCAA products.Pity. As Draymond Green said last night :"Early bad habits destroy the careers". Hope Alperen parts away Silas' PG oriented system as soon as possible otherwise he might get more bad habits. He is a clever guy, will find the best solution for himself&Rockets as we continue to neglect some toxic posters.
It's not as simple as "if he goes to a team with a good coach." How many teams even with good coaches would say, "Let's get this Sengun guy and abandon what we do to build our offense around him"? In a way, this Rockets young team is a suitable ground for him to grow with the other kids because we don't have a clear alpha. The "system" (if we have one) should still be quite fluid. The problem we do have a pseudo alpha whose name is Kevin Porter Jr.
Well it looks like what we think doesn't matter....shocker - and Bruno will be back starting this weekend. DD
Deep interest on Garuba is little bit related to Sengun dislike, that such a weird take. Folks like garuba and thinks he's a superior defender to sengun. We see garuba hustle and plays excellent defense = we are acknowledging his defensive prowess. Sengun only fans think praising a different player equaling hatin on their man is just insecure
You could say this about every single player on our roster, after every single game. "Love KPJ but he was completely exposed last night defensively, as expected. He is simply not a starting PG." "Love JG but he was completely exposed last night defensively, as expected. He is simply not a starting SG." "Love EG but he was completely exposed last night defensively, as expected. He is simply not a starting SF." "Love Jabari but he was completely exposed last night defensively, as expected. He is simply not a starting PF." ------------------------------------------------------------ As usual, it seems, you are missing the point that many of us are trying to make. It isn't about where these guys are now, it is about where they could be 2-3 years from now. KPJ and JG could be off-ball gods. They need to be taught good habits off the ball. Tari and Jabari could be top 2% NBA defenders at the 3 & 4. Sengun is an elite isolation option, right now. If his shooting comes around, Christ. His natural ability to make other players better, read double teams, get to the free throw line, etc, could glue this team together like a good running back in the NFL. He needs defensive reps to become a middling defender, but you'd rather give those minutes to Kelvin Cato and develop a guard-centric offense with KPJ as the head of the snake? Give me a f'ing break, dude!
Let me save you some time, in two - three years Sengun will still not have the height, length or quickness needed to be a good defensive center. Stop trying to turn players into something they aren't and will never be. Sengun has all the tools to be an outstanding offensive player and even offensive hub. He needs to come off the bench so he can focus on being that, without having to compete for shots with the other guys. Forcing him into the starting lineup to play some off ball role, where he gets no shots and has to bust his defensively is not maximizing his potential and is a huge disservice to him.
All wrong, and hilariously so. Funny to see the people with anti-Sengun bias (including the ones proclaiming with fake generosity that they like him) oscillate between "starting doesn't matter" and "he will never be a starter".
It would fly right above your head, like the post just above yours by @RudyTBag and many others. It doesn't matter how many facts get presented to you, everyone can see your bias against the 20-year old: "He will never be tall enough, jump high enough, he can never be a good enough defender"
All these years later and Steph Curry doesn't have the height, length, or quickness needed to be a good defensive PG. Trae Young, Charles Barkley, Moses Malone, Dirk Nowitzki, Dominique Wilkins, Paul Pierce, Larry Bird, etc. Alperen Sengun has already taken ownership, which is half the battle. He is working relentlessly on his defense and his body. Did you see what his body looked like as a 16-year-old, only three years ago? He has come light years, and I wouldn't be so down on him not making another physical/defensive leap. He has done it before and he has the character to do it again. JJ Redick was a sieve and figured out how to become a plus NBA defender, with few attributes aside from work ethic and the willingness to defend. Being forced to bust his ass defensively with the starters is EXACTLY where he should be. More defensive reps against starters. If he becomes a mediocre defender, you have a star on your hands. If it doesn't happen, well ****, who cares? I can promise you 100% that Kelvin Cato will still be there... At least KPJ/JG will be moving off the ball some, right? Or do we want the dribble fest to continue?
I am trying to figure out where the "abomination" in this opinion is. Can someone clue me in? Seen a lot of abominations over the years, but this isn't in the top 1 million.
@Zboy >>>>>>>>>> @larsv8 This is respected 99er @thacabbage. @thacabbage >>>>>>>>>>>> @larsv8 Gotta love it when the @larsv8 and @maj21 mouthbreathers of the world try to make it seem like only rabid Turkish fans who just started following the Rockets praise Sengun, trying to frame anyone who sees Sengun's star potential as a Linsanity type "Sengun only fan". No! There are many of us who have been following the Rockets for 20+ years who see that we have a star in Sengun.
You can say it and while Sengun gets the most criticism for defense, when you look at the game play by play you realize how bad our guards are on d. It is amazing how often KPJ sleeps on his man, completely losing him, EG gives up as soon as he is screened, how they fail so often on switching, constant miscommunication. Of course they need a 'rim protecting big'. You can watch all games on this website, each particular offensive and defensive action labeled and made into a separate video. You can see that the main problem on defense, is the perimeter and transition defense. It is horrible(and I don't see how EG and KPJ are praised to be good defenders), and it is one of the reasons why Sengun gets exposed to guards so often. Overall sengun's defense looks better than the guards' defense. https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23iobt https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23hCt9 https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23N9Al https://the-high-low.com/?ids=238Sxq https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23pc5e https://the-high-low.com/?ids=2371QW https://the-high-low.com/?ids=235X46 https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23NM7q https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23u0SW https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23ChFK https://the-high-low.com/?ids=23YNKu
Oh no man, Sengun is going to be an offensive powerhouse. You start that guy for sure. Who the hell ever had the imminently realizable potential at 20 yrs old to put up 25 efficient points and 5 assists and was not considered starter material? Sengun is a small improvement in his 3pt shot away from being a consistent, efficient volume scorer. Without it, yes there's a huge risk that he will just be an offensive sparkplug. That likelihood appears to be small as he's already shooting 25% from 3 and hitting almost 80% of his FT's. You can see why Jokic and Doncic and Harden and Curry and other players with no athleticism fly under the radar. Some people have created a made up rule in their head that you must have elite athletic attributes to be elite on offense and that's just not true. The amazing thing about Sengun is not that he can score in the post, it's that he just happened to have a coach who taught him the post as a kid and he aced the living hell out of it. The next coach is going to teach him something else, and he's going to ace that too. He may not become a great defender, but an excellent and efficient scorer never has to be an amazing defender to achieve a high net impact score.
It's time for some reporters to call Silas out on it. I understand that local reporters are worried about their media access and all...the last reporter who wrote negatively about the Rockets (Fran Blinebury) got canned. But for the love of God, stop with the softball only questions to this guy. There has to be some level of accountability when it comes to this abject failure in treating one of your best players. Any development Alpi can show, it's not due to whatever Silas has been doing, but despite it.
