He's getting things done even if you don't like him. He's far surpassed my expectations of just not being Trump. American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022 Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 Postal Service Reform Act of 2022 CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 Two more likely to pass: Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act of 2022 Respect for Marriage Act of 2022
Pete won't win. He is gay and not appealing to a lot of minorities and it is shown in the polling. For all the talk of some of the woke folk, the reality is that the USA (and the world) isn't progressive enough yet.
Dem bench is weak unless they have an OKC James Harden who just needs an opportunity...Republican bench is weak too, but as of now, I have a hard time seeing any Dem that would beat DeSantis although I am interested in seeing how much damage he'd take if he battled Trump
Maybe they don't believe that he did a lot of damage? Also, quite possible that black people are more moderate than a lot of people think. People can point to reactionary laws on crime, but the Clinton Crime Bill was quite popular in the black community at the time and it isn't as clear cut how black voters feel about it now. Black voters also live in a very imperfect society, and as a result they can be very forgiving and also see things in context. I would argue that it is the radical side of the Democrats and the conservatives that largely super impose what and how they think black people should feel about social issues, instead of actually listening to black voters.
I've seen quite a few people on here the past year or so talking him up as a viable Dem candidate tho, and I just don't see it if Pete ever won a primary, I'd eat oven baked crow with 2 sides and a drink
And people can argue that the Earth is flat. What's your point? Come back to me when a leftist candidate says that if you don't vote for me then you ain't black or uses hot sauce in a purse as a prop to show that they are in with the minority.
Trump can't win. He's got a legion (cult) of followers. It's embarrassing if we trot out Trump and Biden DeSantis and call it a day
I'm interested in seeing how much the results of these midterms will damage Trump with Republican voters Most of right wing media has turned on him, but has most of the voters? the candidates Trump endorsed mostly won their Republican primaries with ease, but then sucked in the general election...and I see what happened to Liz Cheney and others who were immediately labeled RINO's and seemingly kicked out the party if they dared to defy him...Will all that change now?
I would take DeSantis beating a Democrat over Trump doing so any day...I don't think he'd be anywhere near as incompetent, corrupt, or egotistical...I can't picture DeSantis doing a January 6th or refusing the results of an election bringing 60+ bogus fraud cases to court I don't think he'd do all he can to create distrust in our Democracy/divide the country and spread lie after lie after lie I don't think we'd see such unprecedented chaos in the White House. How many incompetents did Trump fire or get rid of? Seemed like he had at least 4 different people in almost every position. that's my impression of him so far...some say he's Trump with makeup on and is essentially a prettier version of MAGA tho
Every Republican voter I know just wants him to go away. If I never have to see him again that would be great. I think it will. People are realizing how toxic he is. You'll still get the MAGA idiots but they're a dying breed
If you want brutal honesty . . . He is not openly gay. It does truly matter to some Like it or not . . . and means to minorities and non-minorities alike If Obama can over come being black and named Barack . . . . Pete should be able to overcome being gay That said . . . The word in the community is that Mayor Pete was not kind to the minorities in his little town so . . .that may cause more issues Rocket River
Who is on the right side of history? That isn't clear cut at all. Violent crime in the USA has been cut almost in half since 1994. When it comes to crime, people can like something in theory, but as soon as crime begins increasing, they revert back wanting more police and incarceration.
What does this have to do with anything? Black people vote the way they choose to vote. No one makes black people vote the way they do, any more than any other group of people. FWIW I have found black voters to actually be more sophisticated voters in general, they don't have a checklist like a lot of people seem to believe. I have nothing against Bernie Sanders. I think he is a very good man and he stands up for positions that are not always well liked by the majority of people. However, the idea that he is better for black people is really debatable, that is up to the black voters to decide.
A lot of minority voters don't trust Pete. I have heard that often, that while he is a Democrat, he isn't the type of Democrat that they like or believe in. I agree with you, we can argue that it is unfortunate or not, but at the end of the day, he has the responsibility of winning over minority voters.
What's funny is that I never even mentioned who black people should vote for. As a minority I'm confused about his appeal especially when he has been a part of almost every wrong decision until Obama needed a reactionary conservative Democrat to ease the fears of white suburban folks. Dude was wrong about the rhetoric around crime and punishment in the 90s. He was wrong about the Patriot act. He was wrong about the Iraq war. Dude has failed upwards and i don't get the appeal. And it's relevant because you accused leftists of believing "they know best for black people" when literally the person everyone here is on their knees for is the one person who literally said that "you ain't black if you don't vote for me l" which I find incredibly ironic
