I believe Yang and his org(s) are laser focused on fixing the broken rules of our democracy. As fun and exciting and empowering as his original run was (none of this would be possible without what they accomplished in 2020), the Presidency is unobtainable for any 3rd parties until they fix the foundational problems and they know that.
the only reason biden won in 2020 was because he was running against trump. you want more sleepy joe than run the orange insurrectionist again.
i suspect biden will run in 2024, but if he doesnt he needs to make that public by next summer so others can prepare. normally the torch is passed to the VP, but i think harris is even less popular than biden and would not have a good chance of winning an election. it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the next year or so. any historians out there know of a situation where the sitting VP sought and did not get the nomination? i cant think of one off-hand.
i forgot about dan quayle! before him it was hubert humphrey (LBJ's VP). 5 other VPs did not get their party's nomination including texas own john nance garner (garner state park namesake). VPs do not have a good track record when it comes to winning the presidency. only 1/3 who ran got elected (6 of 18). i would have assumed the number was higher than this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_vice_presidents_who_ran_for_president Eighteen of the 49 vice presidents of the United States have attempted a run for the presidency after being elected vice president.[1] Six have been elected to the presidency, or over a third of running vice-presidents, while seven have lost the presidential election. Eleven have earned the primary nomination in their party, with most of them winning the presidency. Six unsuccessfully sought the presidential nomination of their party. Additionally, twelve vice presidents ran while they were in office. This list does not include incumbent and former presidents who were former vice presidents. wow! no VP won the presidency b/t martin van buren (1836) and nixon (1968).
I'm still surprised he fell off a bike without a broken hip or back. I think he could win re-election if 2024 is not in recession and he chooses another running mate. 2023 looks more ****ed economically than this year, so what do I know...
80 years old and still the most effective president at passing legislation in recent history. Being a good president in a democracy isn’t a practice of physical abilities as much as it is social. You need to know how to read and speak to the room both in a macro and micro sense. We’ll see in a second term if he’s going to decline mentally enough to be effected the way Reagan was or if he starts having health problems that keeps him away from being able to interact with people like FDR might have been those last few months. I assume the person who will make the determination of whether he can do the job another 4 years is actually Jill Biden. He’s even spoke to her decision on the matter in his most recent speech after the midterms. So happy 80th birthday POTUS! Thank you for your service and if your healthy and happy enough I’ll gladly cast my vote for you in 2024 over a man baby who will be 78 then who is morbidly obese, runs a cult, and has openly attempted to overturn Democracy.
If Biden doens't run there will likely be a very contested Democratic primary. Even though Harris is Biden's VP my guess is he won't get behind her. HE might act like Reagan did in 1988 when he took a very hands off approach over GH Bush. Harris will certainly run but that she hasn't done anything to distinguish herself I doubt she wins the nomination. Ideally for the Dems is if Biden doens't run he does find someone who he annoits as his heir. Either they start really rehabilitating Harris or they find someone else like Buttigeig. If I was Harris and it appeared that Biden was going to push someone else to be the heir I would resign the VP. IF she's not getting anything out of the office and Dem leadership plan on bypassing her that would created friction and make things even harder for her.
Idk what people see in Pete...Maybe he beats Trump because Trump is so hated, but how do y'all have confidence in a guy who has zero minority support? How is he ever winning a primary? Can he pull enough votes from groups that aren't college educated white people?
How did Biden win the minority vote when he has done far more damage in the past to minority communities (reactionary law and order solutions to crime)?
Life expectancy for American men right now is 73.2 years old, so both Trump and Biden look great for their respective ages considering most men are dead before 74.
I mean props to Trump. I would think with his lifestyle he would at least be on a mobility scooter by now.
